The starting salary will be from (£33,951) to (£39,906) on Grade E or from (£43,482) on Grade F depending on qualifications, skills and experience
The Role
An exciting opportunity has become available to work on a 28-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University of Exeter and Intelligent AI Limited. The KTP will support the development and commercialisation of an AI-driven platform that automatically converts UK planning application drawings into structured building data, enabling insurers, brokers and property owners to improve risk assessment and generate more accurate reinstatement cost estimates through enhanced insight into internal property layouts.
The successful candidate will be employed by the University of Exeter and will spend the majority of their time working remotely in the Exeter region, with occasional visits to the University of Exeter and Exeter Science Park.

Qualification / Skills We Require
- Educated to first degree level, a good Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Computer Science, AI, Computer Vision, or in a related field of study or equivalent experience
- Strong programming capability using Python.
- Experience with machine learning and computer vision frameworks.
- Familiarity with multimodal data processing and document analysis techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with ability to interpret complex datasets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to mixed academic and industrial audiences both in person and online.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary academic–industry team, with commercial awareness.
- Experience of managing research projects or contributing significantly to collaborative research.
- Well‑organised, self‑motivated, and able to prioritise work independently within a project framework.
- Enthusiasm for hands‑on experimental work alongside computational modelling.
- Adaptable and able to work effectively in a fast‑paced SME environment.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements and good research record‑keeping practices.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusive working practices.
- Willingness to travel to Exeter for face to face meetings with Intelligent AI, with visits to the University of Exeter as required, and flexibility to meet project demands.
