Description Of Duties / Essential Functions

Performs professional financial analysis and provides analytical support to multiple City departments. Analyzes financial statements, budgets, expenditures, revenues, and operational data; prepares financial reports, schedules, graphs, dashboards, and other analytical products; and develops interpretations and recommendations to assist management in making informed financial and operational decisions. This position emphasizes the use of data analytics and visualization tools to transform financial and operational information into meaningful, actionable insights. The Financial Analyst II works collaboratively with City departments to identify trends, monitor financial performance, improve reporting processes, and strengthen financial management practices.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

DATA & BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE The Financial Analyst II is expected to increasingly leverage data visualization and business intelligence tools to improve the City's ability to understand and act upon financial information. Key responsibilities may include:

  • Designing Power BI dashboards that provide timely visibility into departmental budgets, expenditures, revenues, forecasts, and performance measures.
  • Developing data models and measures to support recurring financial and operational reporting.
  • Combining information from financial systems, spreadsheets, databases, and other sources to produce comprehensive analyses.
  • Automating recurring reports and reducing manual data preparation where practical.
  • Establishing consistent definitions, calculations, and reporting methodologies across departments.
  • Developing visualizations that allow users to drill into financial information by department, division, program, fund, account, period, or other relevant dimensions.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve data accessibility, reporting efficiency, and financial transparency.
  • Training or assisting departmental users in interpreting dashboards and using analytical tools effectively.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field.

Experience

One year of professional experience in finance, economics, financial analysis or a closely related field are required.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Five years of pertinent professional or para-professional experience may substitute for the education requirement.

An Associate’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field and three years of pertinent professional or para-professional experience may substitute for the education requirement.

A Master's degree in a field directly related to the job may be substituted for the above experience requirement.

SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate’s qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

PAY GRADE : 18
