Role Description

The Controller-Health is a full-time, on-site role based at the Ho-Chunk Health Care Center in Black River Falls, WI. This position oversees financial operations, general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting. The role involves preparing monthly and annual financial statements, monitoring cash flow, and ensuring compliance with applicable healthcare, tribal, state, and federal regulations. The Controller collaborates with leadership to develop and track financial performance metrics, support audits, and recommend process improvements for financial efficiency and internal controls. Day-to-day tasks include supervising finance staff, reviewing transactions for accuracy, managing financial systems, and providing clear, data-driven analysis to support strategic and operational decisions.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in financial management and accounting, including budgeting, forecasting, general ledger oversight, and preparation of financial statements.
• Experience with healthcare or nonprofit financial operations, such as patient billing, revenue cycle processes, grants management, and regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency with accounting and financial software, spreadsheets, and reporting tools; ability to analyze complex financial data and present findings clearly.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills, including mentoring staff, delegating tasks effectively, and fostering a collaborative, respectful work environment.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and capacity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders and support informed decision-making.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is preferred but not required.
• Prior experience as a Controller, Finance Manager, or similar role in a healthcare or comparable setting is highly beneficial.
