Power BI Data Analyst

Charlotte, NC (On-Site 4 Days/Week) • Full-Time Permanent •$70,000 – $100,000

About the Role

My client is looking for a sharp, proactive Data Analyst to help us modernize how we build and deliver reporting across the organization. This is not a passive, ticket-taking role — we need someone who can take ownership of our reporting landscape, engage directly with clients and business stakeholders to gather requirements, and drive a meaningful transition from legacy SSRS reports to a modern Power BI environment.

You will play a central role in our move toward Microsoft Fabric and a new data warehouse, helping shape the reporting layer that sits on top of it. If you are a strong SQL writer, a skilled report developer, and someone who communicates with confidence and clarity — this role is a great fit.

What You'll Do

  • Own report development end-to-end — taking requirements from business stakeholders and clients and delivering clean, accurate, and well-structured reporting solutions
  • Lead the conversion of existing SSRS reports into Power BI — assessing the current report library, prioritizing the migration roadmap, and executing the build
  • Interface directly with clients and internal stakeholders to gather business requirements, ask the right questions, and translate needs into reporting solutions
  • Bring structure and prescriptive standards to report development — moving the organization away from ad hoc, app-dev-driven reporting toward a governed, consistent approach
  • Support the organization's transition to Microsoft Fabric and a new data warehouse by building and maintaining the reporting layer on top of the new platform
  • Write complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and validate data across multiple sources in support of reporting and analysis needs
  • Maintain and support existing SSRS reports during the transition period, ensuring business continuity while the migration progresses
  • Proactively identify reporting gaps, data quality issues, and opportunities to improve how the business consumes information
  • Collaborate with data engineering and IT teams to understand data structures, pipelines, and warehouse design as it evolves
  • Document reporting standards, data definitions, and processes to support consistency and knowledge transfer across the team

Required Qualifications

  • Strong Power BI skills — experience building dashboards, reports, and data models that business users actually rely on
  • Experience in a data analyst or reporting analyst role with a strong focus on report development
  • Deep, hands-on experience with SSRS — you have built, maintained, and troubleshot complex SSRS reports in production environments
  • Strong SQL skills — you write complex queries comfortably and can work directly against databases to pull and validate data
  • Experience gathering business requirements directly from clients or non-technical stakeholders — you know how to ask the right questions and translate ambiguity into clear deliverables
  • Excellent communication skills — written and verbal; you are comfortable presenting to stakeholders, pushing back when needed, and explaining technical concepts in plain language
  • Proactive mindset — you do not wait to be told what to do; you identify problems, surface them early, and bring solutions
  • Ability to work on-site in Charlotte, NC four days per week

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric — exposure to the platform, its architecture, or its reporting capabilities is a strong plus
  • Experience working alongside a data warehouse build or migration — understanding how warehouse design impacts reporting
  • Experience establishing or improving reporting governance standards within an organization
  • DAX proficiency for advanced Power BI data modeling
  • Exposure to data pipeline concepts even if not directly building them

Who You Are

You are the kind of analyst who takes a messy spreadsheet request and hands back a structured, repeatable Power BI report — and then asks what else needs to be cleaned up. You have a strong technical foundation in SQL and reporting tools, but what sets you apart is your ability to communicate. You can sit across from a client, understand what they actually need (not just what they asked for), and deliver something that makes their job easier.

You are not someone who waits in a queue. You see the bigger picture, understand where the organization is headed, and proactively position your work to get us there faster. The SSRS-to-Power BI migration is a big lift — and you are someone who can own it with confidence.

Compensation & Work Arrangement

  • Salary: $70,000 – $100,000 based on experience
  • Location: Charlotte, NC — on-site 4 days per week, 1 day remote
  • Full-time permanent role with full benefits package
