Position Overview
We are seeking an ESG Quant Analyst - Stewardship Specialist to join the Responsible Investing team in Sydney. Unlike a traditional stewardship role, this position sits within a quantitative investment environment and will help drive Acadian's ESG research by combining direct company engagements with the development of scalable research tools and datasets. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, highly analytical, and equally enjoy working with large datasets as engaging with company management teams. They will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and be excited by the opportunity to apply AI techniques.
Acadian supports a hybrid work environment; employees are on-site in the Sydney office 3 days a week.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate and lead engagement activities with investee companies across assigned regions, incorporate client-specific stewardship priorities, monitor controversies, and speak directly to companies.
- Capture company intelligence through engagements, support quantitative ESG assessments of portfolio holdings, maintain engagement records and databases, and produce high-quality case studies, quarterly updates, and stewardship reporting for both internal and external audiences.
- Share engagement insights regularly with portfolio managers, researchers and sustainability specialists to support the development of proprietary signals, analytics, and spur new ESG research ideas.
- Leverage Python and AI tools to acquire, clean, transform, and analyse large structured and unstructured datasets and contribute to the development of AI-enabled stewardship tools.
- Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years of experience on the buy-side or sell-side.
- Demonstrated aptitude for programming (Python and SQL), conducting exploratory data analysis, and extracting insights from large datasets.
- Experience with generative AI tools including OpenAI and Claude code.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analytical concepts into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate effectively across global teams and time zones.
- A demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, including a willingness to pursue relevant professional qualifications such as the CFA Sustainable Investing Certificate.
