Our Global Employer Services (GES) team provides taxation, immigration & social security advice to multinational companies and their global employees. We have established in 2017 a Regional Delivery Centre in Bucharest to provide invaluable support to client facing professionals throughout Europe (currently supports 13 European Deloitte Member firms in managing these accounts). By centralizing standard processes and administrative support we are seeking to drive process change and efficient working across the practice.
We are looking for a Senior/Data Engineer developer, who is experienced with working in Azure-based technology.
What we are looking for — essential skills and experience
- 3+ years’ experience in data engineering, data development, or a related role
- Strong experience with SQL and data transformation, validation, and optimization techniques
- Hands-on experience with Azure data services, including Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, or similar technologies
- Experience working with data modelling concepts and designing structured datasets that support reporting, analytics, reconciliation, and auditability
- Good understanding of Data Lake architectures, Delta Lake concepts, and layered data platform design principles
- Experience with Python and/or Spark for data transformation, automation, testing, and performance optimization
- Experience working with structured data, file-based processing, REST APIs, and integrating data from multiple source systems
- Ability to translate business requirements into scalable and reliable technical solutions
- Experience troubleshooting data pipelines, monitoring data quality, and ensuring reliable data delivery
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate effectively with business and technical stakeholders and communicate complex concepts clearly
- Ownership mindset with the ability to independently drive tasks and contribute to technical design decisions
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-developing engineering environment
- Good communication skills and professional working proficiency in English
- Experience with payroll, HR, finance, tax, or other process-heavy operational domains
- Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, Git-based deployment, and automated testing
- Familiarity with Power BI, semantic modelling, operational dashboards, or reporting layers
- Experience with metadata-driven frameworks or multi-tenant data platforms
- Experience working in consulting, shared delivery, or cross-border team setups
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines for payroll data processing and automation
- Develop and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and validation processes
- Design and maintain data models for reporting, controls, and auditability
- Manage and enhance Data Lake / Delta Lake environments
- Integrate data from APIs, flat files, payroll providers, and client systems
- Implement data quality checks, reconciliation rules, and audit logging
- Use Azure services to deliver scalable and reliable data solutions
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Troubleshoot data pipeline issues, performance bottlenecks, and data inconsistencies
- Improve platform performance, reliability, monitoring, and maintainability
- Support testing, deployment, and release activities
- Contribute to technical documentation, standards, and best practices
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and DevOps initiatives
- Share knowledge and support other team members
- Drive technical solutions from design through implementation
- Contribute to reusable frameworks and standardized client onboarding processes
