As the Manager CMC Competitive Intelligence in Biberach, you are responsible for the state-of-the-art development, implementation, and continuous evolution of competitive intelligence concepts related to CMC development. A strong focus will be on translating data‑ and AI‑driven insights into strategic recommendations for Development CMC and business functions. This is a key position for interaction with other functions within the Innovation Unit to advise on and jointly execute competitive intelligence activities to advance the innovative power of our portfolio.

Tasks & responsibilities
- You design, continuously evolve and execute CMC‑focused, AI‑enabled competitive intelligence analyses in close collaboration with Development CMC business functions and adjacent Innovation Unit functions, ensuring a forward‑looking perspective and clear prioritization across development programs and modalities
- By integrating technical, market‑related, and digital intelligence into a broader scientific and strategic context, you systematically identify, assess, and monitor external CMC capabilities to evaluate performance, maturity, and underlying business models
- You represent the SmartCI perspective in portfolio, technology, and strategy discussions with stakeholders and provide asset‑ and modality‑specific CMC intelligence ahead of key development, scale‑up, and regulatory milestones to enable informed prioritization and decision‑making
- In close collaboration with subject‑matter experts and regulatory specialists within Development CMC and the Innovation Unit, you coordinate and ensure scientific alignment and cross‑functional validation of analyses
- You prepare reports, deep dives, and high‑quality dashboards on market‑specific developments, ensuring usability across organizational units and effective transfer of insights into strategic decisions and operational implementation
- Focusing on cross‑functional collaboration, you drive the prioritization of relevant intelligence questions across modalities and coordinate their execution across interfaces within and outside Development CMC, ensuring dependencies and information needs of involved units are addressed
Requirements
- M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or a related discipline; PhD preferred
- Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, CMC development landscape, and underlying business models. Understanding of business requirements of a global CMC development function
- Extensive experience within CMC environments combined with a solid overview of relevant technologies, platforms, and development approaches
- Proven experience in applying AI-based or digital intelligence tools, as well as working with relevant databases to generate competitive insights
- Solid knowledge of state-of-the-art competitive intelligence methods, including structured data analysis, benchmarking, and synthesis of complex information
- Understanding of the impact of digitalization and advanced analytics on CMC development, manufacturing, and regulatory processes
- Strong analytical mindset, business-oriented thinking, and ability to translate insights into impactful recommendations; basic understanding of compliance or data governance is a plus
