Location: Bellingham, Washington (On-site initially; hybrid schedule after training period)

Industry: Manufacturing

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to serve as the right hand to our CFO. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, is energized by building and improving processes from the ground up, and is comfortable operating with limited existing documentation. You'll play a key role in full-cycle accounting while indirectly managing a team of three, all while partnering closely with the CFO on strategic financial initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for a driven accounting professional from a mid-sized company who wants to make a visible, lasting impact on how a growing organization runs its finance function.

What You'll Do

  • Act as a trusted partner and right hand to the CFO, supporting strategic decision-making and day-to-day financial operations
  • Oversee and participate in full-cycle accounting, including general ledger, month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Indirectly manage and mentor a team of three accounting professionals
  • Navigate and help optimize processes within the company's ERP system, going beyond basic bookkeeping tools
  • Build, document, and standardize accounting policies and procedures where formal documentation is currently limited
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and drive process improvements across the accounting function
  • Work extensively in Excel to analyze large datasets, build models, and translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights
  • Support audits, budgeting, forecasting, and other ad hoc financial projects as needed
  • Problem-solve independently in a dynamic environment with evolving priorities

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Proven experience in a mid-sized company environment, ideally within manufacturing
  • Strong full-cycle accounting background with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
  • Software experience beyond QuickBooks — comfortable learning, navigating, and optimizing modern ERP systems
  • Advanced Excel skills, including experience working with large, complex datasets and distilling them into meaningful analysis
  • A self-starter mentality — able to build structure and best practices without relying on extensive pre-existing documentation
  • Strong track record of creating and implementing policies, procedures, and process documentation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and support a CFO at a strategic level
  • High attention to detail balanced with the ability to see the big picture
