About the Role

Southern Rural Water is currently seeking a System Accountant to join our team for a 12-month period. This newly created role will support SRW’s Digital Transformation Program by providing finance subject matter expertise, supporting the backfill of key finance resources, and acting as a critical link between Finance, Technology and project teams to maintain continuity throughout project delivery.


This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and improvement of finance procedures, processes, controls and reporting, while playing a key role in the implementation of SRW’s new Finance and Billing system. The System Accountant will support a range of transformation activities, including requirements validation, solution design, data migration, testing, operational readiness, knowledge transfer and system adoption.


Reporting to the General Manager, Finance, Safety and Risk, you will work closely with the Finance team, Digital Transformation team and key stakeholders to maintain and optimise financial systems, provide finance subject matter expertise and assurance, and ensure business requirements are effectively translated into fit-for-purpose system solutions.


About you

The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate some of the desired experience and abilities below:


  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • Membership of, or eligibility for membership of, a recognised professional accounting body, such as CA ANZ or CPA Australia.
  • Comprehensive understanding of finance processes and controls, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, fixed assets, banking, reconciliations and financial reporting.
  • Capacity to translate finance and billing requirements into system design, configuration, business processes, controls and measurable acceptance outcomes.
  • Experience providing finance assurance over solution design, functional coverage, data migration, testing, parallel processing, reconciliations, cutover and operational readiness.
