Role Description The Materials Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at Cotterman Company’s facility in Croswell, MI. This role oversees materials planning, purchasing, and inventory control to ensure production lines have the right materials at the right time. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring inventory levels, coordinating material flow between departments, managing supplier relationships, and aligning materials availability with production schedules. The Materials Manager will analyze usage data, adjust safety stock levels, support cost-reduction initiatives, and maintain accurate records in the company’s systems. The role collaborates closely with production, logistics, and finance teams to optimize material availability, minimize shortages, and support on-time delivery to customers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, operations, business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong materials management capabilities, including Materials Management and Inventory Management skills.
- Experience in inventory control disciplines, such as Inventory Control and maintaining accurate stock records.
- Background in Production Planning to align material requirements with manufacturing schedules.
- Demonstrated Analytical Skills for forecasting demand, reviewing usage trends, and identifying process improvements.
- Experience with manufacturing or industrial environments, preferably metal fabrication or related industries.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and spreadsheets for planning, tracking, and reporting materials data.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with production, purchasing, and leadership teams.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
