The unit produces New Zealand’s official measures of unemployment, employment, and underutilisation, and delivers quarterly data releases for the Household Labour Force Survey (HLFS), Quarterly Employment Survey (QES), and Linked Employer-Employee Data (LEED). These are New Zealand’s primary labour market data collections, providing critical insights into labour supply, employment, earnings, and workforce dynamics.

Data collected includes information on livestock numbers, arable farming, horticulture, forestry, and farm management practices. These statistics provide a comprehensive picture of the agricultural sector and its contribution to New Zealand's economy and environment.
Our work supports a wide range of users, including government agencies, industry organisations, researchers, other Stats NZ teams, and the wider public. The insights generated help inform policy development, planning, investment decisions, and public understanding of New Zealand's primary industries.
