Platm Engineer Core Systems

Temporal · New York City (preferred) or US Remote · Full-time About Temporal Temporal builds low-latency infrastructure at the core of Solana. We operate across transaction landing, validator infrastructure, and proprietary trading systems. Our flagship product is Nozomi, for transaction landing. All of it runs on bare metal, in many regions, placed near the validators rather than near a cloud region. This role owns that layer, and the code every other engineer imports to use it. The role We are hiring a platform engineer to own the infrastructure everything else runs on. Trading systems, transaction landing, validators, and the data pipelines underneath them all sit on machines that someone has to provision, configure, secure, deploy to, and watch. Every one of those services also logs, emits metrics, reads secrets, and loads configuration, and today each of them does it its own way. You would own both halves: the fleet, and the standard libraries that make every service on it behave consistently. This is not a Kubernetes-and-tickets role. There is very little Kubernetes here. The hot path runs on a microsecond budget, so the standard platform answers are often too expensive, and the machine you are about to reboot may be about to produce a block. What you will do Own the internal Rust libraries every service imports: logging, metrics, tracing, secret and credential access, and configuration. Ship them with defaults that are right, ergonomics that get them adopted, and overhead the hot path can afford. Build policy enforcement in front of signing and key access: proxies that decide what may be signed under which conditions, fail safely, and produce an auditable record, without adding latency the trading systems will notice. Own the platform end to end: provisioning, configuration, secrets, delivery, observability, and on-call. Make host configuration reproducible across a multi-region bare-metal fleet, including the low-level tuning that latency-sensitive services depend on: CPU pinning, hugepages, IRQ affinity, kernel and NIC tuning, and clock discipline. Build deploy tooling that can update production without dropping customer transactions or missing slots. Operate Solana validators and their supporting infrastructure: snapshots, ledger and account storage, client upgrades, network configuration, and the parts of validator operation that are unforgiving about timing. Run and extend the metrics, logging, and alerting stack, including retention, cardinality, and cost. Take incidents, find the actual cause, fix it, and remove the class of problem when you can. What we are looking for Proficiency in Rust, including designing crate APIs that other people depend on. Our tooling and our services are Rust and you will be changing both. Experience building internal libraries or platform APIs that engineers actually adopted. You think about defaults, ergonomics, and migration paths. Deep Linux and networking fundamentals. You can explain what a machine is doing, from the process down to the NIC, and you debug from evidence rather than from a list of things to try. Real experience operating bare metal in production, across regions and providers, with strong infrastructure-as-code and configuration management practice. Secrets and identity in production: secret management, PKI, certificate lifecycles, and credential rotation that does not require heroics. Bonus if you have built enforcement into a critical path, such as authorization proxies, admission control, or request signing. Deep familiarity with Solana, or the demonstrated ability to build genuine protocol fluency fast. You should want to understand what a validator is doing, not only whether the process is up. Strong ownership. You can take an underspecified production problem, investigate it, build the fix, ship it, and operate it. Especially relevant: developer platform or internal tooling teams where your users were engineers at your own company; infrastructure or SRE work for latency-sensitive bare-metal fleets in trading, HFT, CDN, or telecom; validator operations, RPC fleets, or node infrastructure; custody, signing, or key management systems; open-source libraries with users other than you. You do not need years of blockchain experience, a crypto background, a specific degree, or to check every box. How we work Temporal is small, technical, and fast-moving. Engineers own real systems, not tickets. High autonomy, high accountability, direct access to production, minimal process. We use AI tools daily and expect you to as well. Location and compensation Location: New York City strongly preferred. We will consider fully remote candidates living in the United States who are exceptional fits. Base salary range: $200,000 to $350,000, depending on experience and level. In addition to base salary, all roles may be eligible for equity and performance-based upside. Base is only part of total compensation here, and compensation scales quickly with demonstrated impact. For exceptional candidates, we have the budget to be competitive with top trading firms; the posted range reflects base salary at hire, not the ceiling of what a career here looks like.
