The engineering team ships fast - the CTO runs parallel AI coding agents - and quality is the constraint that keeps velocity honest. This is the first QA hire at Paperbase: you build the quality function for a platform that deploys into sovereign, air-gapped, regulated environments where you cannot call home for support.

As Founding QA Engineer, you own the release bar. Nothing ships until it passes your definition of done. You build the test harness around agent-generated code, test across every deployment shape, and design the observability that catches failures before users do. You verify the thing we actually sell: memory that stays true over time.

• Own the release bar and definition of done for the entire platform
• Build and maintain the automated test harness: E2E, integration, and regression
• Test across every deployment shape, including air-gapped environments
• Design observability and monitoring that catches failures before users do
• Verify temporal truth - that the memory layer maintains what is still true over time
• Feed defect patterns back into engineering to prevent recurrence
  

• 2 to 5 years of QA and testing experience with strong automation capability
• Proficiency in test automation: E2E frameworks, CI/CD, and integration testing
• Ability to code: Python, TypeScript, or similar
• Brutal attention to detail - you find the edge case everyone walked past
• Systems thinking: you trace failures to structure, not just lines

• Experience testing AI products, LLM applications, or data platforms
• Experience with infrastructure testing (Docker, Kubernetes, cloud)
• Experience in regulated or security-sensitive environments
• Startup or high-growth environment experience
