- Respond to leads and communicate with prospective customers about their deck and outdoor construction projects.
- Visit job sites to take measurements, evaluate existing conditions, and determine project scope.
- Review blueprints, drawings, specifications, and other project information when preparing estimates.
- Develop accurate labor and material estimates and prepare proposals for customers.
- Obtain and manage pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
- Purchase materials and coordinate other project-related needs.
- Present estimates to customers and maintain communication throughout the sales process.
- Provide crew leads with a thorough handoff when projects move into production.
- Visit active jobs to monitor progress and help ensure work remains consistent with the approved scope, estimate, and schedule.
- Track labor, materials, receipts, change orders, and other project information.
- Compare estimated costs and hours against actual job performance to improve future estimates.
- Communicate with customers regarding project status, site conditions, scheduling, and completion.
- Build strong working relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and other business partners.
- Help identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and profitability of the deck division.
- Provide occasional production or project-management support when business needs require it.
- 3+ years of experience in construction estimating, project management, construction sales, or a related role.
- 3+ years of experience with log, timber, deck, or comparable construction.
- Strong understanding of construction materials, labor requirements, and project costs.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and blueprints.
- Strong math and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and basic computer systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Clean driving record and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work independently while also working closely with production and management teams.
The Work
This is not a desk-only estimating position. You’ll regularly spend time in the field evaluating prospective projects and checking on active work.
The Position Requires The Ability To
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Drive to job sites, including occasional trips of approximately 1.5 hours each way.
- Climb ladders and access difficult-to-reach areas when measuring projects.
- Lift up to 60 pounds occasionally.
- Spend extended periods working at a computer preparing estimates, proposals, and project documentation.
