Intermediate SDET/QA Automation Engineer

The Position: We are seeking an experienced Intermediate SDET/QA Automation Engineer to join our healthcare technology team. This role will be instrumental in building and maintaining our test automation infrastructure, ensuring software quality throughout the development lifecycle, and establishing testing best practices across the organization. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in test automation frameworks, strong coding skills, and experience with healthcare data compliance requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

Test Automation & Engineering:

• Design and implement comprehensive test automation frameworks and strategies for web applications, APIs, and data pipelines
• Build and maintain automated test suites using modern tools and frameworks (Playwright, Selenium, Pytest, etc.)
• Develop automated tests for REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures
• Create performance and load testing solutions to validate system scalability
• Implement automated security and compliance testing for PHI data handling
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps

Quality Strategy & Planning:

• Define test strategies, plans, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with product owners and developers
• Establish quality gates and release criteria for software deployments
• Identify testing gaps and recommend improvements to testing processes
• Champion shift-left testing practices and quality-first culture
• Evaluate and recommend testing tools and technologies
• Drive continuous improvement in test coverage and effectiveness

Test Development & Execution:

• Write automated tests for functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end scenarios
• Develop API tests using tools like Postman, REST Assured, or similar frameworks
• Create database validation tests and data quality checks
• Build test data management strategies and synthetic data generation tools
• Develop automated smoke tests and health checks for production monitoring
• Maintain and refactor test code following software engineering best practices

echnical Leadership:

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to QA engineers and junior team members
• Conduct code reviews for test automation code
• Establish testing standards, patterns, and best practices
• Collaborate with developers on testability and quality improvements
• Lead initiatives to improve test infrastructure and tooling
• Drive automation coverage metrics and reporting

Collaboration & DevOps:

• Work closely with developers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to integrate testing into deployment pipelines
• Participate in sprint planning, story refinement, and retrospectives
• Collaborate on troubleshooting production issues and root cause analysis
• Support continuous delivery initiatives and deployment automation
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams on quality objectives

Documentation & Compliance:

• Create and maintain test plans, test cases, and automation documentation
• Document testing frameworks, tools, and processes
• Ensure testing practices meet HIPAA/HITRUST compliance requirements
• Maintain traceability between requirements, tests, and defects
• Create knowledge base articles and training materials for testing practices

Quality Metrics & Reporting:

• Track and report on test automation coverage, execution results, and quality metrics
• Analyze test results and provide insights on software quality trends
• Monitor defect metrics and advocate for quality improvements
• Create dashboards for test execution and quality visibility
• Provide regular status updates to stakeholders

Experience & Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience
• 3+ years of experience in software testing and QA automation
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, C#, Java, or JavaScript)
• Strong experience with test automation frameworks (Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or similar)
• Hands-on experience with API testing tools and frameworks (Postman, REST Assured, Pytest)
• Experience with CI/CD tools and practices (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
• Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and best practices
• Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative development workflows
• Solid understanding of SQL and database testing
• Experience testing web applications, APIs, and microservices architectures
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred:

• Microsoft certifications (Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Azure Developer Associate)
• Experience with performance testing tools (JMeter, k6, Azure Load Testing)
• Knowledge of Azure services (Container Apps, Functions, Service Bus, API Management)
• Experience with BDD frameworks (Cucumber, SpecFlow) and behavior-driven testing
• Understanding of HIPAA/HITRUST compliance requirements for healthcare data
• Experience with test management tools (Azure Test Plans, Zephyr, TestRail)
• Knowledge of containerization and Docker for test environments
• Experience with security testing tools and practices
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code for test environment setup
• Background in healthcare technology or regulated industries
• Experience mentoring or leading QA teams
• Knowledge of accessibility testing (WCAG compliance)
