About The Role
ECS seeks a dynamic and experienced Software Development Test Engineer to ensure the quality, reliability, and security of a large-scale, public-facing web platform serving enterprise clients managing critical digital infrastructure. You'll work embedded within an agile development team, collaborating closely with developers, team leads, UX/UI designers, and product stakeholders to deliver accessible, secure, and high-quality solutions. This platform includes complex features such as multi-entity account management, infrastructure services provisioning, secure administrative workflows, and domain management capabilities.
A strong desire and aptitude for learning is essential—our solution is rapidly evolving with new requirements, technologies, and an ever-changing threat landscape. The ideal candidate will bring both manual and automated testing expertise, a passion for quality advocacy, and the ability to think holistically about system reliability across the full stack.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test strategies including manual and automated testing to validate functionality, performance, security, and accessibility across the full stack (frontend UI, backend APIs, database operations, domain registry/DNS operations, and complex end-to-end workflows)
- Build and maintain automated testing frameworks, integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines, and proactively recommend improvements to increase automation coverage and testing efficiency
- Ensure compliance with federal accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA / Section 508) and security requirements (Federal ATO, Login.gov/OIDC authentication), incorporating automated accessibility and security testing into development workflows
- Identify, document, track, and verify resolution of defects using issue tracking systems; maintain test documentation and provide clear reporting on testing progress, coverage, and quality metrics
- Collaborate with developers, the Technical Team Lead, product managers, and UX/UI designers throughout the agile development lifecycle—participating in sprint ceremonies, code reviews, and requirements discussions while serving as a quality advocate and identifying testability concerns early
- Continuously evaluate and recommend testing tools, methodologies, and process improvements that enhance team effectiveness and align with modern web application best practices
- Must be a US Citizen
- Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical discipline
- 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance and testing, with a mix of manual and automated testing
- 5+ years of hands-on experience testing enterprise-scale web applications built with modern web technologies (Python/Django and JavaScript frameworks)
- 5+ years of experience developing and maintaining automated test frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, pytest, or similar)
- Experience testing full stack web applications including frontend UI, backend APIs, and database interactions
- Experience with testing in Agile/Scrum environments and integrating testing into SecDevOps/CI/CD pipelines
- Working knowledge of Git-based version control and pull-request workflows
- Experience with issue-tracking and test management tools (Jira, TestRail, GitHub, or similar)
- Experience with accessibility testing to meet WCAG 2.1 AA / Section 508 standards, including use of automated accessibility testing tools
- Experience testing applications that must meet federal security requirements and compliance standards
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with testing cloud-deployed, containerized applications
- Experience testing relational database operations and API integrations
- Experience testing domain management systems, DNS platforms, or infrastructure-as-a-service offerings
- Familiarity with domain registry/registrar architecture, including the registry-registrar model and EPP (Extensible Provisioning Protocol)
- Working knowledge of DNS concepts and record types
- Experience delivering technical excellence in the federal space, particularly with DHS programs and the DHS SELC
- Experience with performance and load testing tools and methodologies
- Programming/scripting experience in Python or JavaScript for test automation development
- Experience with API testing tools (Postman, REST Assured, or similar)
- Relevant professional certifications (ISTQB, CSTE, or similar quality/testing certifications)
- Experience with security testing tools and methodologies
- Contributor to open source testing projects or tools
- Experience with test data management and test environment configuration
- Knowledge of customer experience/human-centered design principles and how they inform quality validation
