The Vascular Clinical Nurse Specialist provides direct/indirect specialized, comprehensive care, emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention and collaborative management strategies. Participates in clinical, educational, leadership, consultant and research activities of service area. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and standards of practice. Provides 24x7 support for nursing and targeted patient populations.
The Vascular Clinical Nurse Specialist provides direct/indirect specialized, comprehensive care, emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention and collaborative management strategies. Participates in clinical, educational, leadership, consultant and research activities of service area. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and standards of practice. Provides 24x7 support for nursing and targeted patient populations.
- Clinical Practice/Consultation-Demonstrates advanced knowledge and analysis of nursing practice issues related to clinical specialty. Provides consultation, within area of expertise, to health care team regarding complex patient care needs.
- Provides direct and indirect expert patient/family care in specialty area. for patients of all ages, who have unique or complex needs. Provides highly complex assessment, care planning, care, treatment and discharge/transition planning and placement to specified patients.
- Develops and evaluates standards of practice in specialty area based on evidence and best practice.
- Develops evidence-based clinical interventions and systems to achieve defined patient and system outcomes.
- Coordinates care of patients with use of system and community resources to assure successful health/illness/wellness transitions, enhance delivery of care and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Provides leadership in the design, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement and innovations at the unit and system levels.
- Leadership/Strategic Planning- Demonstrates a commitment to the philosophy and goals of Carilion Clinic.
- Provides leadership in promoting interdisciplinary collaboration to implement outcome-focused patient care needs.
- Provides leadership for establishing and implementing goals related to nursing practice. Participates in decision-making processes which impact nursing practice at all levels.
- In collaboration with nursing leadership, takes initiative to identify opportunities to enhance clinical practice of staff and develop effective strategies for improvement.
- Participates in decision-making processes which impact nursing practice at all levels.
- Clinical Research and evidence-based practice - Provides leadership regarding evidence -based nursing practice and integrates research into establishing patient care standards, guidelines, and protocols.
- Participates in conduct of/ or implementation of research.
- Critically analyzes research findings and recommends evidence-based practice changes to improve patient outcomes.
- Assists and mentors staff to develop and implement evidence-based projects to improve patient outcomes.
- Disseminates research and EBP findings through in-services education, unit councils, shared governance groups, etc
- Education-Provides and promotes education for patients/families, the health care team, and the community.
- Mentors nurses to acquire new skills, clinical judgment and effectively incorporate evidence into practice.
- Designs and implements education appropriate to patient needs and abilities.
- Provides community education and/or participates in community service organizations, in area of expertise, on healthcare issues, delivery of patient care, and health prevention and promotion.
The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. As such, the individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age and specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
What We Require
Education: Master's degree in nursing required.
Experience: Two years of nursing experience in area of Vascular is preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Current nursing licensure and specialty certification. Must be registered as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the State of Virginia or can obtain it within 6 months of hire.
Additional certification(s) specific to a business unit may be required (i.e. OB/GYN requires OB certifications and EFM preferred.
Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required
Other: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent presentation skills. Ability to think globally and communicate a vision

Compensation Range
$89,232.00 - $142,771.20
Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
