Test Engineer Senior

York Space Systems is searching for a Senior Test Engineer to act as an expert on all test aspects of space hardware. They will be working across engineering teams to lead and coordinate best practices in test: supporting junior engineers as well as planning, coordinating, executing, and troubleshooting test campaigns. The ideal candidate will have significant prior experience in the space sector, with an emphasis on small satellites and small satellite components.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with systems engineering and program management to define verification strategies and timelines.
- Develop, execute, and manage complex test plans for mission-specific verification.
- Develop and execute both manual and automated tests cases, including documentation and trouble shooting.
- Develop automation for test activities, increasing efficiency of the business.
- Identify testing methods and test fixturing for risk mitigation, prototype development, and requirement verification.
- Plan and perform environmental qualification and testing of hardware, including functional testing, vibration testing, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, and other qualification tests.
- Communicate and collaborate with various areas of the business, such as technicians, product and technical leadership, and program managers.
- Interface with the customer by negotiating test requirements and methods, jointly developing plans, and communicating and reporting on test progress.
- Represent test engineering at major program milestones and act as expert reviewer at Test Readiness Reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- 4 -10 years of hands-on experience in space and small satellites including satellite components.
- Experience assembling and/or testing hardware for space environments.
- Experience with writing and executing manual and/or automated test procedures.
- Experience with programming languages such as C++, Python, or similar.
- Experience in overseeing and processing data from environmental tests such as vibration, shock, thermal cycling, and/or thermal-vacuum testing.
- Familiarity with writing test documentation, such as test plans, procedures, and reports.
- Experience with preparing and leading project stage-gate meetings (such as CDR, TRR, etc.) and interfacing with customers.
- Experience with scripting and test automation tools.
- Experience working in Linux and Windows environments.
- Willingness to work full-time in our Greenwood Village, CO office; this position does not support remote or hybrid work.
