C-B Gear & Machine, Inc. is seeking an experienced Quality Inspector to join our team in Houston, Texas. We manufacture and repair industrial gears, shafts, gearboxes, and precision-machined components for demanding industrial applications.

The ideal candidate will have a strong machining or manufacturing background and be comfortable inspecting close-tolerance components using both conventional measuring equipment and advanced inspection systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform dimensional and visual inspection of machined components, gears, shafts, housings, and gearbox components.
• Perform in-process and final inspections to verify conformance to drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and manufacturing specifications.
• Inspect IDs, ODs, bearing fits, shaft fits, keyways, splines, gear features, runout, concentricity, and other critical dimensions.
• Perform non-destructive testing (NDT), including magnetic particle and dye penetrant inspection, as required.
• Use precision inspection equipment including:
• Outside and inside micrometers
• Bore gauges
• Height gauges
• Depth micrometers
• Indicators
• Calipers
• Gauge blocks and pins
• Surface plates
• Perform dimensional inspection using a Romer portable measuring arm / PC-DMIS when required.
• Verify manufactured and repaired components against customer drawings and C-B Gear engineering requirements.
• Document inspection results and maintain accurate inspection records.
• Identify and clearly document nonconforming dimensions or conditions.
• Communicate inspection findings with machinists, engineering, production, and management.
• Assist production personnel with dimensional verification during machining operations.
• Inspect incoming material and outsourced components as required.
• Verify completed work prior to release for assembly or shipment.
• Maintain inspection equipment and ensure calibration status is current.
• Support continuous improvement of C-B Gear's inspection and quality processes.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in quality inspection, precision machining, or a related manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of machining processes and precision measurement.
• Ability to read and understand detailed mechanical drawings.
• Working knowledge of GD&T.
• Experience inspecting large machined components is highly desirable.
• Gear, gearbox, spline, or heavy industrial machining experience is a strong plus.
• Experience with portable CMM/Romer arms and PC-DMIS is preferred but not required for an otherwise qualified candidate.
• Ability to independently determine appropriate inspection methods and accurately document results.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, repeatable inspection results.
