Freelance BESS Project Manager – High Voltage / DACH

Role: Senior BESS & HV Project Manager (Freelance)

Location: Germany / DACH Region (Hybrid with Site Travel)

Duration: 12-Month Initial Contract (High Probability of Extension)

Rates: High-performing daily/hourly rate band

About the Role:

We are currently representing a leading energy infrastructure developer scaling a high-priority portfolio of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and high-voltage grid connections across the DACH region.

We are seeking a senior Freelance Project Manager to take full technical ownership of site execution, EPC contractor management, and TSO interface coordination through to site energisation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Overall Site Delivery: Direct the construction and execution of utility-scale BESS facilities and substation civil/electrical packages.

• Grid Connection Liaison: Manage technical compliance and interface workflows with regional TSOs (TenneT, 50Hertz, Amprion, or TransnetBW).

• Commissioning Leadership: Oversee EPCM partners and site supervisors through FAT/SAT testing phases.

• Quality & Safety: Enforce local German grid standards (VDE-AR-N 4110/4120) and site HSE protocols.

Mandatory Criteria (Non-Negotiable):

✔ Valid EU Passport or existing, unrestricted EU Right to Work (Essential).

✔ 3+ years of technical Project Management experience in High Voltage (HV), BESS, or Grid Connection projects.

✔ Professional fluency in German (C1/C2) and English for site management and TSO communications.

✔ Availability to start on site within 2 to 4 weeks.

Desirable Criteria:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or Civil Engineering.

• Proven track record working directly with tier-one European developers or EPCs.
