The Opportunity As a Career Medical Officer, you will provide comprehensive inpatient medical care under the supervision of Specialist Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs).
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Conducting comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking and physical examinations
- Managing inpatient care plans and documenting clinical findings
- Ordering and interpreting investigations
- Prescribing medications and initiating appropriate treatments
- Responding to Medical Emergency Team (MET) calls
- Coordinating patient transfers where required
- Liaising with Specialists, General Practitioners, Allied Health and nursing staff
- Participating in discharge planning from admission through to discharge
- Counselling patients and their families regarding treatment plans
- Participating in clinical handovers, quality improvement initiatives and multidisciplinary meetings
- Performing procedures within your scope of practice
- Venepuncture and intravenous cannulation
- Airway management
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Defibrillation
- Intramuscular injections
- Safe administration of intravenous medications and fluids
- Blood product administration
- Suturing, wound care and bandaging
- Nasogastric tube insertion
- Urinary catheterisation
