  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current Arkansas licensure as a registered nurse. Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred (BSN required or actively pursuing).
  • Training and Classroom: Three years ED or critical care nursing experience. Previous experience in stroke care, neuro-vascular nursing, or clinical teaching desirable. Excellent verbal and written skills, with experience in public speaking. Successful completion of ACLS, PALS, and BLS. NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required within 30 days of hire. Completion of SCRN (Stroke Certified Registered Nurse) preferred within 12 months.
  • Job Knowledge: Understanding of the principles of adult education and stroke continuum of care. Clinical expertise in acute stroke protocols, thrombolytic therapy, and endovascular therapy management. An ability and willingness to work with associate's growth and development needs across the life span.

Description

The ED Stroke Manager RN is responsible for assisting the ED Director and ED Nurse Supervisor in the coordination of comprehensive and integrated care of the acute stroke patient from pre-hospital triage through rehabilitation. In addition, the ED Stroke Manager serves as a clinical consultant to improve the knowledge and practice base of all staff providing care for stroke and neurological patients. They are accountable for the development and implementation of timely and effective in-services. Active in quality assurance, regulatory preparedness (including Primary/Comprehensive Stroke Center certification), registry management, and associate recruitment and retention. Designs nursing in-services which encourage excellence in clinical stroke practice.
