Role Description The Homeless Outreach Coordinator is a full-time, on-site position based in Fort Myers, FL. This role focuses on engaging individuals and families experiencing homelessness, conducting regular outreach in the community, shelters, and service locations to build trust and connect people with resources. The Coordinator will assess client needs, provide information and referrals to housing, healthcare, and social services, and assist with service enrollment and follow-up to support stability. Daily tasks include maintaining accurate records, tracking outcomes, collaborating with community partners and internal departments, and participating in case discussions and coordination meetings. The role also involves educating community members about homelessness, supporting training and awareness initiatives, and contributing to program improvement and data-driven decision-making.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Communication skills, including clear verbal and written communication and active listening.
- Candidates should possess Community Outreach skills, including engagement in diverse settings and relationship building with community partners.
- Candidates should possess Customer Service skills, including empathy, patience, and the ability to work respectfully with individuals in crisis.
- Candidates should possess Research skills, including gathering information on local resources and analyzing data to support program outcomes.
- Candidates should possess Training skills, including the ability to deliver basic educational sessions and support staff or volunteer orientation.
- Experience working with vulnerable or unhoused populations, social services, or nonprofit programs is beneficial.
- Knowledge of local housing, behavioral health, and social service systems, or willingness to learn quickly, is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in social work, human services, counseling, or related field is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally within Lee County as needed.
