Content & Publishing Specialist
We're looking for an exceptional writer who also understands what great digital publishing looks like.
This is a hands-on content role spanning long-form storytelling, fundraising campaigns, digital publishing, UX and search. You'll write across print and digital, build and optimise content in our CMS, and help evolve how Cancer Council Queensland approaches SEO, GEO and AI-powered discovery.
You'll work across Marketing, Digital and Fundraising, creating content that helps people understand our impact, inspires people to donate and participate, and helps Queenslanders affected by cancer find trusted information and support.
What you'll do
Write and edit
- Create compelling long-form content across print and digital.
- Write supporter stories, fundraising appeals, campaign content, webpages, email, SMS and UX copy.
- Turn complex information into clear, engaging and human content.
- Edit and improve content developed by colleagues, subject matter experts and agency partners.
- Build, publish and maintain content across our digital platforms.
- Structure content around audience needs, user journeys and intended actions.
- Apply content design, UX writing, accessibility and information architecture principles.
- Work with our digital and design specialists to continually improve content experiences.
- Work with fundraising teams to turn campaign strategies into compelling supporter communications.
- Create content that inspires people to donate, participate and continue supporting our work.
- Use storytelling, audience insight and performance data to improve engagement and conversion.
- Apply SEO best practice to content planning, writing, publishing and optimisation.
- Use search intent and keyword research to inform content decisions.
- Monitor and report on organic search and content performance.
- Use performance insights to identify opportunities to improve existing content.
- Help evolve our approach to GEO and AI-powered discovery as search behaviour changes.
You're as comfortable with a long-form piece for print as you are making a webpage clearer, more useful and more effective.
You're also comfortable getting hands-on with digital content. You understand CMS publishing, SEO and how structure, UX, accessibility and search influence the effectiveness of what you create.
Most importantly, you want to write, edit, build, publish, measure and improve content — not simply brief someone else to do it.
What You'll Bring
- Strong professional writing and editing skills, including long-form content.
- Experience writing across both print and digital.
- Hands-on CMS publishing experience.
- Strong editorial judgement and an understanding of content strategy.
- Practical experience applying SEO to content creation and optimisation.
- Experience using search and performance data to inform content decisions and reporting.
- An understanding of UX writing, accessibility and information architecture.
- Strong stakeholder and collaboration skills.
- An interest in GEO, AI-powered search and emerging content practices.
Why Cancer Council Queensland? You'll work across an unusually broad range of content and see your work through from idea to publication and performance.
You could be interviewing a researcher or supporter and turning their story into a compelling feature, developing a fundraising campaign, building and optimising digital content or working with our designers to improve a supporter journey.
You'll also help us evolve how Cancer Council Queensland creates, publishes and optimises content as search, AI and audience behaviour continue to change.
Most importantly, your work will help inspire the donations and participation that fund cancer research, prevention and support services, while helping Queenslanders affected by cancer find trusted information and support.
If you're an excellent writer who also understands what great digital publishing looks like, we'd love to hear from you.
