Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for an veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Nurse based in Auckland. In this role, you will provide hands-on nursing care to patients requiring urgent and intensive treatment. Your day will involve triaging incoming cases, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and responding quickly to any changes in patient condition.

You will assist in emergency procedures, support clinicians, and ensure all patient information is accurately documented. The role also includes maintaining equipment, following strict infection control protocols, and communicating clearly with both colleagues and families about patient care.

This position involves working rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays. It is physically demanding and requires resilience, stamina, and the ability to stay calm and focused in high-pressure situations.

Qualifications

  • A strong nursing background with the ability to provide safe, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience or training in emergency nursing, including triage and rapid response
  • Skills in critical care, such as patient monitoring, ventilator support, and managing high-acuity cases
  • Sound understanding of medical and critical care principles to support evidence-based practice
  • Current nursing registration in New Zealand (or eligibility to obtain registration)
  • Certification in BLS, ACLS, or equivalent (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm, organized, and effective under pressure
  • A commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and high standards of care
