🔎 About the Role

Samsung C&T is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) projects from mid/late-stage development through NTP, construction, and COD. As an owner-side Sr.PM for a developer/IPP, you will coordinate internal teams and external EPCs/contractors and consultants to ensure projects are bankable at NTP and successfully delivered in the field.

This is a remote role with periodic travel (typically monthly site visits plus key milestones) to project sites, EPC offices, and occasional in-person team meetings.

🛠 Key Responsibilities

1. End-to-End Project Leadership (Owner-Side)

• Serve as the primary owner representative and single point of accountability for assigned projects from mid/late-stage development through COD.
• Lead cross-functional coordination between Development, Engineering, Interconnection, Legal, Procurement, Construction Management, Finance, and Operations.
• Establish and maintain project execution plans, defining scope, schedule, budget, and risk profile aligned with portfolio and financing requirements.

2. Pre-Construction & Development Support

• Support mid/late-stage development with scope definition, basis of design, and execution strategy for utility-scale PV and BESS projects.
• Help coordinate internal and external engineers to ensure bankable, constructible design packages that comply with applicable codes and utility interconnection requirements.
• Review and challenge EPC assumptions on design, means and methods, productivity, and logistics.
• Participate in site due diligence (desk-based and periodic site visits) including layout optimization, access and logistics, and early constructability reviews.
• Support M&A and greenfield development by providing CAPEX/ schedule input and reviewing technical due diligence materials.

3. Budgeting, Estimating & EPC/Contract Support

• Work with estimating and EPC partners to develop and validate project budgets and CAPEX for investment decisions and NTP approvals.
• Lead preparation and management of RFPs for EPC packages; support Procurement Team with RFPs for major equipment, including scope definitions, bid evaluations and recommendations.
• Lead negotiating EPC Contracts, and assist with key supplier contracts, providing technical and commercial input to ensure alignment with project risks and financing conditions.
• Track and communicate key commercial assumptions (contingency, escalation, allowances) to internal stakeholders.

4. Scheduling & Portfolio Coordination

• Develop and maintain high-level integrated project schedules from mid/late-stage development through COD, aligned with portfolio and financing timelines.
• Coordinate with EPCs on detailed construction schedules and monitor critical path activities, especially interconnection, long-lead procurement, and commissioning.
• Ensure project schedules tie into portfolio milestones (NTP, COD, tax credit deadlines, lender milestones).

5. Construction Oversight (Monthly Site Visits)

• Provide owner-side oversight of EPC/contractor performance, primarily through remote coordination plus monthly site visits and targeted milestone visits (mobilization, mechanical completion, energization, performance testing).
• Review EPC reports, three-week look-ahead, manpower curves, and progress photos; challenge and validate reported progress and forecasts.
• Participate in regular construction progress calls and meetings, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule expectations are clearly communicated and enforced.
• During site visits, perform field walks with EPC and owner’s engineer to validate progress, quality, and compliance with contract documents.

6. Cost Control, Change Management & Reporting

• Own the project budget from NTP through COD on the owner side, maintaining up-to-date forecasts and contingency positions.
• Evaluate and negotiate EPC and supplier change orders, aligning with contract terms and protecting project economics.
• Develop and deliver monthly project reports covering schedule, cost, risks, safety, and key decisions for internal leadership and investment committees.
• Coordinate with Finance on drawdowns, cash flow forecasts, and lender reporting requirements.

7. Quality, Commissioning & Turnover to Operations

• Coordinate with the EPC, Owner’s Engineer, and internal technical teams on QA/QC, inspections, and testing.
• Oversee commissioning plans, performance testing, and punch list closeout to meet contractual and financing requirements.
• Ensure delivery of complete as-built documentation, test reports, warranties, O&M manuals, and spare parts as required by contracts and lenders.
• Lead project handover to Asset Management/O&M, including lessons learned and long-term risk items.

8. Risk Management, Compliance & Stakeholder Interface

• Maintain and actively manage a project risk register from mid/late-stage development through COD, with mitigation strategies and action owners.
• Coordinate with utilities, AHJs, landowners, and community stakeholders as needed, usually in partnership with Development and Construction Management.
• Ensure compliance with environmental permits, interconnection agreements, and lender requirements.

🎯 Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 10+ years of experience in project management, pre-construction, or construction management for utility-scale solar and/or BESS projects (≥20 MWac), including time in an owner, IPP, or developer environment or closely interfacing with one.
• Demonstrated experience managing projects through both:
• Pre-construction (design coordination, estimating/budgeting, contracting), and
• Construction/commissioning oversight (schedule, cost, quality, and turnover).
• Strong understanding of EPC delivery models, contract structures, and risk allocation on large power projects.
• Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Primavera P6 or MS Project for schedules; Excel, and a PM platform such as ProCore for tracking and reporting).
• Excellent remote communication skills, able to lead distributed teams and manage EPCs largely from afar with targeted site visits.
• Ability and willingness to travel approximately once per month to project sites and occasional in-person meetings (overall ~15 - 25% travel).

Preferred

• Experience in a developer/IPP role directly interfacing with investors, lenders, and tax equity partners.
• Familiarity with project finance, NTP and COD conditions, and lender/IE processes.
• Experience overseeing BESS integration and commissioning alongside PV.
• Professional certifications such as PMP, PE, or CCM.

The expected salary range for this position is [$150,000 – $180,000 annually]. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, education, and location.
