The IT Engineer Senior serves as a senior technical resource within the Information Technology Workstation Technologies (ITWT) team and is responsible for the engineering, integration, administration, automation, and support of enterprise endpoint management systems, workstation technologies, Microsoft 365 services, cloud platforms, and related enterprise applications.
The role provides advanced technical leadership in the deployment, operation, and continual improvement of critical campus technology services supporting administrative, academic, and research functions across the University of Kansas. The position is responsible for supporting and maintaining enterprise endpoint management systems, public computing environments, print management platforms, software licensing infrastructure, Microsoft 365 services, cloud resources, and associated automation frameworks.
Working collaboratively with Information Technology Enterprise Systems, Security, Networking, and Technology Support Centers, this position develops and implements scalable technology solutions while ensuring operational continuity, security, and service reliability for over 12,000 managed devices and associated enterprise services. This position serves as a senior escalation resource and participates in the design, implementation, documentation, automation, and lifecycle management of University technology services.

Job Description
35% - Enterprise Endpoint & Workstation Engineering
- Design, deploy, maintain, and administer workstation management systems and endpoint platforms.
- Administer MECM, Intune, Jamf, Group Policy, print management, endpoint security, software distribution, and related technologies.
- Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex endpoint and infrastructure issues.
- Coordinate with Security, Networking, and Enterprise Systems teams to maintain secure and compliant endpoint services.
- Administer and support enterprise applications and services including Microsoft 365 technologies such as Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Entra ID, Azure resources, Power Platform, and related cloud services.
- Support licensing, identity management, monitoring, operational maintenance, and configuration of assigned systems.
- Participate in service upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell, Python, or similar automation solutions.
- Build tools and workflows that improve operational efficiency, reporting, deployment, compliance, and systems management.
- Utilize source control and modern development practices where appropriate.
- Contribute to automated deployment and infrastructure-as-code initiatives.
- Lead technical implementation efforts for new workstation and enterprise technologies.
- Participate as a subject matter expert on enterprise projects.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and develop recommendations for service improvements.
- Assist in roadmap planning and lifecycle management activities.
- Create and maintain technical documentation.
- Provide technical mentorship to peers and support staff.
- Deliver knowledge transfer activities and technical training.
- Represent ITWT on enterprise workgroups and committees.
- Participate in after-hours support and major incident response as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma/GED and seven years relevant experience, Associate Degree and five years relevant experience, or Bachelor's Degree and three years relevant experience.
- Three years of enterprise-scale endpoint management experience.
- Three years of experience supporting workstation management technologies including several of the following:
- MECM/SCCM
- Intune
- Jamf
- Group Policy
- Print Management
- License Management
- Endpoint Security
- Virtualization
- Anywhere365
- Two years of experience administering enterprise applications, Microsoft 365 services, cloud platforms, or related infrastructure.
- Experience using PowerShell or similar automation technologies.
- Experience supporting large-scale managed endpoint environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical projects or implementations.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Microsoft 365 administration experience.
- Azure administration experience.
- Entra ID administration.
- Power Platform experience.
- Git or source control experience.
- Terraform, Ansible, or similar automation platforms.
- Experience in higher education.
- Experience working with enterprise security and compliance frameworks.
- Experience providing leadership or mentoring responsibilities.
