Quarles & Brady LLP is seeking a talented lateral associate with 4–7 years of experience to join our Technology Licensing, Data Privacy and Security team. The position is open to any of our office locations under a hybrid work arrangement.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise clients on compliance with federal, state, and international data privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations, and emerging AI governance frameworks
- Counsel clients across industries on data asset management strategies and privacy program development
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of technology and commercial agreements, including SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, software licensing, technology development, IT professional services, outsourcing, supply chain, commercial hardware and services, and non-disclosure agreements
- Draft and review data protection agreements, data processing addenda, and IP and privacy provisions in corporate transactional agreements
- Advise clients on IP ownership, protection, and licensing strategies across a variety of industry sectors
- Lead and support incident response efforts, including breach investigation, notification, and regulatory reporting
- Advise clients on artificial intelligence governance, responsible AI deployment, and associated legal and compliance risks
- Conduct privacy impact assessments, data mapping, and risk analyses for clients across regulated industries
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and advise clients on emerging obligations and enforcement trends
- Assist with regulatory inquiries, investigations, and enforcement actions
- Collaborate with colleagues across practice areas – including corporate, intellectual property, and litigation – to deliver integrated solutions on transactions, disputes, and compliance matters
- Contribute to client-facing thought leadership, including alerts, webinars, and speaking engagements
Qualifications
Required
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- 4–7 years of substantive experience in data privacy, cybersecurity, technology transactions, or information governance at a law firm or in-house legal department
- Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating technology-related agreements and advising on privacy compliance programs
- Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple client matters and work both independently and collaboratively
Preferred
- CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, or AIGP certification
- Prior experience managing or mentoring junior associates

Benefit eligibility is dependent on hours. Compensation is determined by the market in which the position is located, the responsibilities of the position, the experience, education, and skills of the applicant, including book of business for more experienced roles, and other job-related factors. The range for associates $175,000 to 280,000.
