- Ability to perform essential functions — Must be able to carry out all core duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Frequent standing and walking — Continuous movement throughout patient care areas for most of the shift.
- Constant mobility — Regular transitions between rooms, units, and equipment; fast ‑ paced environment with minimal sedentary time.
- Lifting and patient assistance — Occasional lifting, repositioning, or assisting patients using proper equipment and team support.
- Potential physical altercations — May encounter patients who are confused, disoriented, or combative; requires ability to respond safely using de ‑ escalation techniques and team protocols.
- Exposure to clinical conditions — Noise, varying activity levels, bodily fluids, and the need for PPE.
- Multiple competing priorities — Must adapt quickly to changing patient needs, urgent situations, and shifting workflows.
- Use of PPE — Masks, gloves, gowns, and other protective equipment required depending on patient condition.
- Training and safety tools provided — Includes equipment for safe lifting, de ‑ escalation training, and compliance education.
Eastern Maine Medical Center as well as Acadia Hospital is looking to build a flex team of accomodating officers. Ideal candidates will be adaptable to overnight schedules, eager to learn, and ready to hit the ground running! Candidates must be available to work weekends. Our Healthcare Security Officers work closely with patients and hospital staff. The right candidate for this highly rewarding job will be compassionate, dependable, and self-motivated!
