SYSTEMS ENGINEER

StraussGroup Executive Search is conducting an exclusive search for a Systems Engineer on behalf of a growing managed services provider in the Buffalo area. We will share the full company story with candidates in our first conversation.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is the project side of the business, not the help desk. When a project is sold, you are the person who goes in, figures out what the client actually has, designs the solution, builds it, tests it, documents it, and hands it to the support team so it runs without you. You will also join technical discovery before deals close, so the work gets scoped honestly from the start.

The role reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

• Own assigned projects from discovery through implementation and handoff
• Design and build secure, supportable solutions across cloud, identity, endpoint, and network technologies
• Sit in on pre-sales discovery to evaluate existing environments, surface dependencies and risks, and help define the approach and level of effort
• Plan and execute migrations, deployments, and infrastructure changes through completion
• Validate the work before it ships: access, performance, integrations, backup readiness, supportability
• Write clear documentation and hand off real knowledge to the team that will support the environment long term

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Genuine experience designing and implementing infrastructure, cloud, or systems solutions, not only administering environments someone else built
• Depth in Microsoft 365 and identity: Entra ID, Intune, Conditional Access, Exchange Online
• Strong Windows Server and hybrid infrastructure background: Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, virtualization, hybrid identity
• Working knowledge of networking: firewalls, switching, routing, VLANs, VPNs, wireless, and connectivity troubleshooting
• Sound judgment on technical risk, security tradeoffs, and downstream impact
• The ability to explain technical decisions to people who are not technical
• A track record of moving work forward without someone checking on you

NICE TO HAVE

• MSP or technology services experience across multiple client environments
• Azure infrastructure, Azure Virtual Desktop, backup and disaster recovery, cybersecurity
• Experience supporting pre-sales technical discovery

Base salary is $85,000 to $120,000 depending on depth of experience, plus a full benefits package.

One note on titles: Systems Engineer means very different things at different companies. If the work described above is what you actually do, the title on your resume matters less than the scope.
