Summary

The Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer (ServiceNow) #246. Duties

  • Designs and implements complex integrations, advanced customizations, and scalable platform features. Architects reusable components and frameworks that promote consistency, reduce redundancy, and support platform growth. Drives technical decision-making, establishes best practices, and provides guidance to engineers to ensure high-quality, performant, and maintainable solutions. Collaborates with stakeholders on technical roadmaps, ensuring solutions account for future needs related to scalability, performance, and security.

Qualifications

Other Duties/ Responsibilities Ability to gather requirements, translate business needs into technical specs, and communicate with non-technical stakeholders. Strong root cause analysis, debugging, and incident resolution skills. Ability to maintain detailed system and integration documentation. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies. Required Work Experience GED with 8–10 years of relevant work experience; Bachelor's with 5–8 years of relevant work experience; Master's with 3–5 years of relevant work experience. Required Special Skills/ Knowledge Proficiency in scripting languages. Strong experience configuring workflows, forms, access controls, notifications, and data models. Knowledge of building and managing integrations. Familiarity with ETL tools, batch processing, SQL, and data transformations. Understanding of access control (RBAC, ABAC, PBAC), SSO, SAML, and platform-level security configurations. Knowledge of distributed systems, middleware, service orchestration, and scalability principles. Experience with DevOps practices, source control, automated testing, and deployment pipelines. Experience documenting existing and newly developed platform solutions to support both technical implementation and ongoing troubleshooting, ensuring clarity for developers, administrators, and support teams. Desired Qualifications: ServiceNow Platform Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience with implementing and supporting the following ServiceNow platform features/functions: CMDB ITSM (incidents, requests, knowledge, workflows) EAM, ITAM, SAM Service Catalog & Service Portal Knowledge Management KPI reports & dashboards Roles & permissions management Technical knowledge: Proficient with Oracle, SQL Server, .NET, and Java. Systems integration: Skilled in developing system interfaces such as APIs, SOA, RESTful, and JSON. Custom application development: Background in developing custom applications. ServiceNow application expertise: Experience with ServiceNow applications such as HR Service Delivery (HRSD), IT Operations Management (ITOM), IT Business Management (ITBM), and Customer Service Management (CSM). Agile/Scrum experience: Involved in Agile and Scrum methodologies, particularly in the software development life cycle (SDLC). Requirements management: Experience with tools like GitLab for managing requirements. UI/UX design: Understanding of UI and UX design principles. Certifications: ServiceNow certifications (e.g., Certified Application Developer, Certified System Administrator) and ITIL certification or familiarity with ITIL foundations. Cross-functional collaboration: Effective at coordinating between cross-functional teams to deliver solutions. Proven ability to work in an Agile environment (user stories, testing, implementation). Excellent communication skills and ability to support users professionally. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to meet aggressive deadlines. Working Conditions This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. The U.S. Senate network cannot be taken offline for maintenance during the workday or while the Senate is in session. As such, maintenance windows may only occur at night, on weekends, and occasionally on holidays. Employees who perform systems upgrades, maintenance, wiring, backups, or support our alternate data centers will have schedules that include working nights, weekends, and holidays. The person in this position must report to work for SAA business needs as required. The person in this position will be required to constantly operate a computer. Security Clearance This position requires that the applicant obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government security clearance. Applicants must be U.S. citizens in order for the SAA to submit your application for a security clearance.

Education

High School Diploma/ GED.
