Our values are key to our success here at SeedLegals:

  • We are committed to a growth mindset;
  • We embrace diversity and cultivate inclusion;
  • We are driven by customer success

The Role

We're looking for someone to join our Customer Experience (CX) R&D Tax Credits team, working directly with some of the UK's most exciting startups.

This role is a little different from a traditional R&D tax position. Rather than spending your days writing technical reports on behalf of clients, you'll help founders understand the R&D rules, review the claims they build through SeedLegals and use your judgement to help them reach a robust final submission.

You'll get under the hood of businesses across software, engineering, science and other innovative industries - understanding what they've built, reviewing whether their work meets the R&D criteria and looking at both the technical and financial elements of their claim.

It's a customer-facing role. You'll work directly with founders and their teams, helping them navigate a complex area of tax. You'll also work closely with our wider R&D team and tax specialists on more complex cases, while continually building your own expertise as the R&D landscape evolves.

If you enjoy the technical side of R&D but want more variety, ownership and interaction with the businesses actually doing the innovation, this could be a great fit.

Your annual starting salary will be between £33,000 and £43,000, depending on experience.

What You'll Do

  • Work directly with startup founders and teams as they build their R&D tax credit claims through SeedLegals
  • Review technical narratives and help customers understand where their claim needs further evidence, detail or explanation
  • Review accounts, tax information and qualifying R&D expenditure
  • Assess R&D eligibility and apply judgement across a wide range of businesses and technologies
  • Answer customer questions through email and video calls and support them through the claim process
  • Work with our R&D and tax specialists on more complex claims
  • Keep developing your knowledge as R&D legislation, HMRC guidance and the SeedLegals product evolve
  • Feed what you learn from customers back into how we improve our product and R&D service

Our aim isn't simply to complete a claim for a customer. We want founders to understand the process and feel confident about the claim they're submitting.

Requirements

You don't need to tick every box, but experience in any of the following would be helpful:

  • R&D Tax Credits
  • Accountancy or tax
  • Science, engineering or technology industries
  • Software development or other technical disciplines
  • Xero, QuickBooks or other bookkeeping platforms
  • Reviewing technical or financial reports
  • Working directly with customers or clients

Previous experience writing R&D reports is welcome, but this isn't primarily a report-writing role. We're looking for someone who wants to use their knowledge to review, understand and challenge claims while helping customers navigate the process themselves.

Benefits

  • Private healthcare, life, and group critical illness insurance
  • 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and your birthday off
  • 3 volunteer days per year
  • Share options after one year in the company
  • Pension
  • Hybrid working policy, and a £250 work-from-home allowance
  • Learning, development and networking opportunities with some of the most experienced individuals in UK startup law, investment, and entrepreneurship
  • Monthly wellbeing allowance
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Annual learning & development budget
  • Free lunch in the office once a week

Interview Process

  • Apply online
  • 30 min video call with a member of the team + small written task
  • 1hr long interview with a manager & member of the team
  • 30 min chat with the Head of Customer Experience
  • 30 min chat with the CEO
