The National Contact centre service the entire country, providing 24/7 service to children and families. From initial contact, the contact centre will be involved in each aspect of completing the child's journey through our multiple services.

Working in a contact centre at the Ministry for Children puts you at the forefront of peoples' lives.  Our clients need highly empathetic people to help them navigate a range of issues from providing support, through to linking them to services and tools that can make a difference to the lives of young people.

As a Client Support Specialist, you will support at a National Level, assisting those wanting to make contact with Oranga Tamariki for numerous reasons.  Within this process, full attention must be paid to the accuracy of client records, whilst strictly adhering to information security procedures. You will be making key decisions which will have a positive impact on others, as well as contributing to an amazingly supportive team who show care and empathy for those we service.  This is a fast paced and challenging environment and you will be given training and development at each step.  You will be supported by our CSS Team leader, as well as an experienced team.

Key requirements of the role include: 

  • Confident communicator both verbally and written
  • Problem solving skills with the ability to find solutions within tight deadlines
  • Previous experience in administration or contact centre role and/or transferable skills
  • Great interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with people of varying levels
  • Effective organisational, planning and time management skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated approach
  • Excellence knowledge of IT systems and all Microsoft packages
  • Working rights within New Zealand.
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
