Macdonald & Company has been exclusively retained by a leading multifamily development platform to appoint a Director of Acquisitions focused on sourcing and securing new multifamily development opportunities across the Midwest.
This position will play a key role in identifying, evaluating, and advancing new development sites across a growing regional footprint. The position is heavily focused on market coverage, relationship development, and deal sourcing, with an emphasis on uncovering off market and highly competitive opportunities. Unlike a fully vertically integrated acquisitions leadership role, this position is designed for a strong originator and transactional professional who thrives on front end deal activity and market presence.
The Director of Acquisitions will work closely with senior leadership and internal development teams, helping drive pipeline growth across traditional multifamily, workforce housing, and Build to Rent communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and evaluate multifamily development opportunities across designated Midwest markets
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, landowners, municipalities, consultants, and industry professionals
- Maintain an active presence within target markets to strengthen market intelligence and sourcing channels
- Identify high potential submarkets through detailed market research and competitive analysis
- Conduct preliminary financial analysis and site feasibility assessments for prospective acquisitions
- Lead early stage deal pursuit efforts, including LOIs, pricing discussions, and initial due diligence coordination
- Present acquisition opportunities and market insights internally to senior leadership
- Coordinate with development, underwriting, legal, and capital teams throughout the pursuit process
- Support transactions through contract execution before transitioning projects to development and execution teams
- Consistently maintain a strong pipeline of actionable development opportunities
- Travel extensively throughout the Midwest region to support sourcing efforts and relationship management
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business, or a related field
- Approximately 5-7 years of relevant real estate experience, ideally within multifamily acquisitions, land acquisitions, development, or investment
- Strong transactional and analytical skillset with exposure to underwriting and financial modeling
- Demonstrated experience sourcing, evaluating, or executing real estate transactions
- Existing relationships within Midwest real estate markets are highly preferred
- Multifamily experience preferred, though other asset classes with relevant development exposure will be considered
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and capable of operating independently in a fast paced environment
- Ability to manage multiple active pursuits simultaneously across several markets
- Willingness to travel frequently throughout the region
- Open to candidates based in or willing to relocate to Chicago or Milwaukee
