*This is not a traditional Engineering Manager position. This is the first senior engineering position outside of the founders at a rapidly growing deeptech startup focused on advanced materials and advanced manufacturing.
Position Overview
Skuld LLC is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to oversee engineers, execute R&D projects, develop proposals, build the engineering organization, and translating customer requirements into manufacturable products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team aligned with company objectives.
- Recruit and retain high-performing engineers.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Lead R&D projects and development of new manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment.
- Manage engineering schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.
- Identify technical risks and implement mitigation plans.
- Coordinate engineering activities across multiple simultaneous projects.
- Report project status to executive leadership and other stakeholders.
- Support commercialization of emerging technologies.
- Work closely with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Business Development.
- Support proposal development and technical volume preparation.
- Participate in customer technical meetings.
- Assist with strategic technology planning.
- Support intellectual property development including invention disclosures and patents.
- Other tasks as needed to support Skuld’s operations
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of engineering experience with at least 3 years of leading technical teams and engineering projects.
- Experience managing multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Experience with working at startups.
- Strong leadership competencies including team development, coaching, mentoring, change management, and strategic thinking.
- Experience with casting, additive manufacturing, and other advanced manufacturing processes especially for metals and alloys.
- Experience with Govcon R&D projects such as SBIR, STTR, OTA, etc.
- Strong writing skills for proposals.
- Manufacturing experience.
- Knowledge of GD&T, manufacturing drawings, and CAD.
- Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 (including design section) and CMMC.
- IP Strategy experience with intellectual property portfolio and technology roadmap.
