YOUR MISSION:
As Director of Engineering - Consumer Experience, you'll lead the technology organisation responsible for delivering exceptional digital experiences across Web and Mobile platforms. This is a horizontal, platform-level leadership role that sets the engineering direction, standards, and quality bar across every consumer-facing product in our Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) business.
You'll own the engineering foundation that product teams build upon - shared platform capabilities, AI-native tooling, frontend standards, and delivery infrastructure - and lead a lean team of senior engineers and a network of delivery partners to build fast, accessible, AI-native experiences that delight our consumers. You'll hold platform adoption authority and co-own the engineering quality bar across the organisation.
As PUMA continues to scale its DTC Engineering organization, our leaders are expected to be visible culture builders. These roles are office-based and require regular in-person collaboration to accelerate decision-making, strengthen team cohesion, foster innovation, and build a world-class engineering capability from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities & Scope of Ownership:

- Build and communicate a clear technology roadmap covering Web (desktop, PWA) and Native Mobile (iOS, Android) platforms.
- Champion AI-native engineering paradigm - from AI-assisted development workflows to front-end personalisation and intelligent UX embedded into the engineering culture from day one.
- Evaluate, select, and govern the technology stack (ReactJS, GraphQL, and emerging tools) to ensure longevity, performance, and developer productivity.
- Establish and enforce engineering standards, coding practices, design systems, accessibility guidelines (WCAG), and performance benchmarks across all consumer-facing touchpoints.
- Build and own a component library and design system that enables velocity and consistency for all product teams.
- Define governance frameworks for third-party vendor engagement including contracts, code quality reviews, delivery cadence, and SLA management.
- Introduce and maintain observability, performance monitoring, and incident management practices for consumer-facing platforms.
- Partner closely with UX/Design, Product, and Marketing teams to translate consumer insights into technically excellent digital experiences.
- Own the front-end architecture for responsive, performant, and accessible web experiences and mobile applications.
- Drive adoption of modern UX engineering practices such as skeleton screens, optimistic UI, progressive enhancement, micro-interactions.

- Lead, mentor, and grow a lean team of senior engineers while maintaining a high-trust, high-performance culture.
- Manage and hold accountable delivery partners for quality, timelines, and engineering standards.
- Partner with Engineering Heads, Product Owners and peer Directors to ensure horizontal services (design systems, shared APIs, performance tooling) are adopted consistently.
- 15+ years of progressive engineering experience, with 5+ years in a senior engineering leadership role.
- Strong architectural and implementation experience in modern front-end engineering: ReactJS, TypeScript, GraphQL (GQL), REST APIs.
- Demonstrable mobile architecture & engineering experience across React Native or iOS (Swift)/Android (Kotlin).
- Track record of building and governing cross-functional engineering platforms used by multiple product teams.
- Strong working knowledge of modern consumer web standards, specifically web performance (Core Web Vitals), WCAG 2.1 compliance, and progressive web applications.
- Background in fashion, retail, or sports DTC commerce environments.
- Experience with composable/headless commerce architectures.
