Automation Development Engineer I
The Automation Development Engineer I is an entry-level role responsible for designing, building, and testing automation solutions that streamline operations and reduce manual work across the organization. This role focuses on developing scripts, workflows, and process automations under the guidance of senior engineers, while gaining hands-on experience with modern automation tools and technologies. Reporting to the Automation Manager or a senior engineer, the Automation Development Engineer I collaborates with IT, engineering, and operations teams to deliver reliable automations that drive efficiency and improve business processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, configure, and test automation workflows based on documented requirements and specifications.
- Build automation solutions using tools such as Rewst, PowerAutomate, Thread, and others.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to translate business requirements into functional, well-designed automation solutions.
- Assist in identifying processes and workflows that are strong candidates for automation.
- Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code that follows established coding standards and best practices.
- Perform unit testing and debugging of automation solutions to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Support the deployment of automation solutions into production environments under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Monitor automated processes, troubleshoot issues, and apply fixes to maintain performance and uptime.
- Document automation designs, workflows, configurations, and technical procedures for future reference.
- Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve the quality of automation solutions.
- Assist with maintaining and enhancing existing automations as business needs evolve.
- Learn and apply new automation tools, platforms, and programming techniques to continually expand technical skills.
- Track and report the status of assigned tasks, escalating blockers to senior team members as needed.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., IT, operations, and business units) to gather requirements and validate solutions.
- Follow company policies, data security protocols, and compliance standards in all automation work.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related field; relevant internships, coursework, or certifications in automation, RPA, or programming are a plus.
- 0-2 years of experience in software development, scripting, or process automation; internship or academic project experience will be considered.
- Familiarity with at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Jinja2, JavaScript, PowerShell, or VBA).
- Exposure to automation tools or platforms (e.g., Rewst, Power Automate, or n8n) is a plus.
- Basic understanding of process mapping, workflow logic, and software development fundamentals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a genuine willingness to learn and grow.
- Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and quality in both code and documentation.
- Eager to learn, with a proactive and curious approach to problem-solving.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and version control tools (e.g., Git).
- Basic knowledge of data security and compliance considerations in automated systems.

- This is a largely sedentary role. The employee is frequently required to sit/stand for long periods and work on a computer.
