Technical Advisor – Aromatics Technology (Petrochemicals)
Independent Owner's Team Advisor – World-Scale Petrochemical Project
Our client, a major petrochemical developer delivering a world-scale project with a significant Aromatics complex, is seeking an experienced Technical Advisor to support the owner's team through technology selection, FEED, and into execution.
This is a senior, independent advisory role for a recognised expert in Aromatics process technology, working directly with project leadership and licensors on one of the industry's flagship developments. The role will suit candidates with flexibility for regional travel.
The Role
Reporting to the project's senior leadership, you will act as an independent subject matter expert across the full project lifecycle — from licensor evaluation through FEED, EPC, commissioning and start-up. Core responsibilities include:
- Evaluating and benchmarking competing Aromatics technology licensor proposals (process guarantees, yields, catalyst performance, emissions, utility consumption)
- Leading technical clarification meetings and negotiations with licensors
- Reviewing FEED deliverables, process design basis documents, and supporting HAZOP/value engineering studies
- Assessing process integration opportunities across petrochemical/refinery interfaces, mass and energy balances, and utility systems
- Providing independent technical risk assessments and CAPEX/OPEX optimisation input
- Supporting operational readiness, commissioning, start-up and performance testing
- Delivering structured training, mentoring and knowledge transfer programmes to build sustainable in-house capability
What You'll Bring
- Minimum 20 years' experience in refining/petrochemicals, including at least 10 years directly in Aromatics technology (PX, Benzene, Toluene, Mixed Xylenes, Extraction, Fractionation, Xylene Isomerisation, TDP, Transalkylation)
- Track record on major capital projects exceeding USD 500 million
- Direct experience working with leading licensors
- Strong FEED review and owner's team advisory background
- Commissioning/start-up and operational support experience on Aromatics facilities
- Proven mentoring and capability-development experience
- Chemical Engineering degree; Chartered/Professional Engineer status desirable
- Middle East experience an advantage
