Position Overview

This role serves as the enterprise-level architectural authority for Microsoft 365, driving the technical vision, governance, and platform roadmap across a large enterprise ecosystem of approximately 20,000 licenses. The position was created to lead major platform modernization projects and support the organization's ongoing AI roadmap, including enterprise Microsoft Copilot adoption.

The Microsoft Architect will focus on high-level architecture, service design, platform strategy, and complex migrations rather than day-to-day administration. Partnering closely with IT leadership, engineering teams, and security stakeholders, this role ensures all M365 services remain secure, scalable, compliant, and aligned with business goals.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain the enterprise architecture, governance, and long-term roadmap across the Microsoft 365 platform.
• Lead architectural strategy for Microsoft Copilot and AI initiatives, establishing frameworks for data security, Purview sensitivity labeling, compliance, and responsible usage.
• Design end-to-end solutions and environment strategies across core M365 workloads, including Exchange Online, Entra ID, Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Power Platform.
• Serve as the top technical authority for complex enterprise initiatives, such as tenant-to-tenant migrations, messaging security/encryption, eDiscovery processes, and Azure B2B collaboration.
• Partner with infrastructure, identity, and security teams to design robust Conditional Access policies, access controls, and integration patterns while preventing data exposure and environment sprawl.
• Evaluate new Microsoft technologies, capabilities, and third-party integrations to assess risk, business value, and architectural fit.
• Create and maintain comprehensive architecture documentation, standards, reference designs, and technical blueprints.

Required Experience

• 8+ years of experience designing and architecting enterprise-scale Microsoft 365 environments.
• Proven experience supporting large enterprise environments (3,000+ users minimum; experience with 10,000+ users preferred).
• Deep architecture-level expertise across core Microsoft workloads, including Entra ID, Microsoft Purview, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, M365 Admin Center, and Power Platform.
• Demonstrated track record of designing architecture for identity management, collaboration platforms, messaging security, and data governance.

Preferred Experience

• Hands-on architecture experience implementing Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, agents, or related AI capabilities within an enterprise setting.
• Experience with Microsoft Viva Suite, complex Exchange routing, message encryption, and advanced eDiscovery/Litigation Hold strategy.
• Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
