Vice President, R&D

Leading R&D for the Software Utility Companies Run On Zynergy and Xellent are EG's core software platforms for Utility, relied on by more than 200 customers across the Nordics every day. As Vice President, R&D, you'll lead the shift toward AI and automated development, and set the technology strategy that keeps both platforms reliable as electrification, flexibility markets and new regulation reshape the sector.

You'll lead an international R&D organisation of around 120 people across Denmark, Sweden, Poland and India, with 5 direct reports. You'll report to Bjarki Björnsson, Senior Vice President for Utility, and join the Utility management team. The role is based in Stockholm.

Your Role: Own the Technology Direction, End to End

Real ownership of an international development organisation, a genuine AI agenda with direct customer impact, and a platform for your next move in EG's leadership team.

The R&D organisation is yours to lead. You own development strategy, architecture, delivery and quality across the Utility portfolio, working closely with Product Management, Customer Support and Professional Services. You'll also set the AI agenda for Utility and share practice with R&D leaders across EG.

Key Responsibilities

• International development organisation — lead and grow a distributed team across the Nordics and Mangalore, building one culture with strong local leadership and a deliberate onshore/offshore balance.
• AI in our products and how we build them — set the AI agenda for Utility end to end, and raise engineering productivity through AI-assisted development, automated testing and modern tooling.
• Technology and architecture — own the target architecture and modernisation roadmap for Zynergy and Xellent, balancing new capability, technical debt and long product lifecycles.
• Delivery, quality and commercial ownership — own release predictability and compliance and manage the R&D budget with a commercial mindset.
• Talent and customer proximity — attract, develop and retain leaders, and stay close to our 200+ customers to turn their reality into clear priorities.

Structure, development standards and continuous improvement matter to you, and you work closely with Product Management, Professional Services, Customer Success and Sales — sharing practice with R&D leaders across EG along the way.

Your background can vary, but to thrive in this role, you:

• Have proven experience leading R&D or engineering organisations at scale in an international software or SaaS company, including distributed teams.
• Bring strong technology judgement across cloud, data, architecture and the modernisation of established products.
• Have a practical, hands-on view of AI in a product context — from data foundation and governance to what turns into real customer value in production.
• Have a performance mindset grounded in evidence, with strong execution and a bias for action.
• Build trust as a leader, develop other leaders, and sustain motivation through change.
• Are curious, ambitious, and eager to grow in a fast-paced environment.
• Relevant master's degree in engineering, computer science or similar.
