We're not looking for an employee. We're looking for the person who wants to build the next Nordic fintech leader with us.

ContoAI is building an AI-native financial platform with the ambition to become a leading fintech company in the Nordics. We already have a working product and early pilot customers — and we're looking for an exceptional Co-Founder & CTO who wants to build the company, the product and the technology together with us.

This is not a traditional CTO position.

You will join as a true co-founder, with meaningful ownership and significant influence over the company. Initially, you'll be highly hands-on — designing architecture, writing production code, building integrations and shipping product. Over time, the natural ambition is for you to recruit and lead a world-class engineering team.

What matters to us is not where you work today — but whether you have the ability, ambition and commitment to build something significant with us.

What you will build

As Co-Founder & CTO, you'll take ownership of ContoAI's technical development. That includes:

• Evolving our core platform from MVP to a hardened, scalable, secure product
• Designing scalable and secure backend architecture
• Developing robust API integrations with banks, PSPs, accounting platforms and other financial infrastructure providers
• Building payment and transaction flows
• Developing AI-native financial workflows and automation
• Integrating LLMs and other AI technologies deeply into the product
• Building intelligent agents and automated financial processes
• Creating secure authentication, permissions and access-control systems
• Designing our data architecture and infrastructure
• Building customer-facing and internal applications
• Establishing testing, deployment, monitoring and DevOps infrastructure
• Ensuring security, reliability and regulatory readiness from the beginning
• Eventually recruiting and leading a world-class engineering team

You'll work closely with the other founders on product, strategy, partnerships, fundraising and expansion.

Fintech & financial infrastructure

Experience from fintech is highly valuable. You don't need to be a regulatory lawyer — but you should understand that in fintech, architecture, security, data and regulation need to work together from day one.

Ideally, you understand or have worked with several of the following:

• Payments and PSP integrations
• Banking APIs and Open Banking
• PSD2 and the evolving PSD3/PSR framework
• KYC / KYB
• AML and transaction monitoring
• Payment initiation and account information services
• Financial data and reconciliation
• Identity and authentication
• Handling sensitive financial information
• Security and compliance in regulated environments

AI should be part of the architecture

ContoAI is not looking to simply add an AI chatbot on top of a traditional fintech product. We want to build AI into the core of the platform.

You don't need to be an AI researcher — you need to understand how to turn modern AI capabilities into products people actually use. We value experience with:

• LLM APIs and modern AI models
• AI agents and tool calling
• RAG and knowledge systems
• Structured and unstructured financial data
• AI-driven workflow automation
• Model evaluation and monitoring
• Building reliable AI systems for real-world use
• Using AI to dramatically increase development speed internally

Who we're looking for

You are first and foremost a builder. You can take an idea, understand the business problem behind it, and turn it into a working product.

We're less interested in which programming languages you prefer, and more in whether you can build great technology quickly, make good architectural decisions and create products customers love.

You probably have several of the following:

• Strong full-stack or backend engineering experience
• Experience building production-grade applications
• Strong API and systems-integration experience
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and scalable architectures
• Strong understanding of databases and data modelling
• Experience with modern AI/LLM technology
• Experience from fintech, payments, banking or financial infrastructure
• Experience taking a product from 0 → 1
• A good understanding of cybersecurity
• Strong product intuition
• Some UX/UI or product design capability

Product & design

You don't need to be a designer, but having an eye for design is a major advantage.

Financial products are often unnecessarily complicated. We want ContoAI to be different: complex infrastructure underneath, an extremely simple experience on top.

You should care about UX, understand how users interact with products, and be comfortable working closely with design — or creating good interfaces yourself when necessary.

Start alongside your current role

We understand that exceptional people often already have exceptional jobs. So for the right person, we're open to you joining ContoAI initially alongside your current employment or other commitments.

This could mean starting evenings, weekends or with a defined part-time commitment while we build the product and validate the business — then increasing your commitment as ContoAI develops, reaches commercial milestones and raises external capital. We care more about output, ownership and momentum than hours spent at a desk.

If ContoAI develops as we expect, the natural ambition would be for the CTO role to grow into a full-time commitment as the company scales and the financial conditions allow it.

Any outside employment would of course need to be compatible with your existing obligations, including confidentiality, IP and non-compete requirements.

We think you are:

• Entrepreneurial and extremely hands-on
• Ambitious and curious
• Commercially minded
• Comfortable moving quickly and operating with limited resources
• Obsessed with building great products
• Excited by AI and financial technology
• Able to make decisions without perfect information
• Someone who takes ownership rather than waits for instructions

Most importantly: you want to build a company — not simply have a CTO title.

Compensation & ownership

This is a genuine co-founder opportunity, not a traditional salaried CTO position.

There will be no salary initially. Instead, the right person will receive an attractive and meaningful equity package, designed to provide substantial participation in the value we create together.

The exact ownership structure will depend on experience, technical capability, commitment and what you bring to ContoAI. We can structure the equity to reflect both early contribution and increasing commitment over time, creating strong alignment between the founders.

As the company reaches appropriate funding and/or revenue milestones, we expect to introduce a competitive salary. For the right person, the opportunity is to join before the major value creation has happened.
