Indexed description

For more than 45 years, Rauhorn Electric, Inc. has helped build and power critical infrastructure across Michigan. Founded in 1980, Rauhorn is a privately owned, full-service electrical contractor specializing in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signals, airport electrical, substations, roadway lighting, and renewable energy. As our project portfolio and operations continue to grow, we're investing in the technology, systems, and leadership needed to support Rauhorn's next chapter.

We're seeking a Director of Information Systems to lead that evolution. This newly created, highly visible role reports will serve as Rauhorn's technology strategist and systems “quarterback” — developing the long-term IT roadmap while also personally executing the work required to connect, improve, and stabilize the systems supporting our business today.

This is an individual contributor role, not a transitional people-leader position. The Director will own both the strategy and execution - identifying what needs change, designing the solution, and doing the hands-on work to implement, integrate, troubleshoot, and improve Rauhorn's systems. This is an opportunity to build rather than inherit, with direct influence and ownership over how technology enables Rauhorn's continued growth.

Job Responsibilities:

Systems Strategy & Integration

  • Develop and own a multi-year Information Systems roadmap that consolidates, integrates, and rationalizes Rauhorn's software ecosystem, reducing manual/duplicate data entry and single points of failure.
  • Personally lead and execute systems integration work, from identifying requirements and designing solutions through configuration testing, troubleshooting, implementation, and ongoing improvement.
  • Serve as the primary architect and hands-on owner for how core platforms connect - ERP, HR/payroll, safety, fleet, estimating, and field/reporting systems - replacing manual CSV exports and copy/paste workarounds with automated governed integrations (ODBC, API, or middleware) wherever feasible.
  • Evaluate the current application portfolio for redundancy, risk, and fit; make build/buy/consolidate/retire recommendations to ownership and the executive leadership team.
  • Build a scalable data architecture and governance model — clear systems of record, data ownership, and validation rules — so financial, HR, safety, and operational data stays accurate and auditable as the company grows.

ERP & Core Platform Ownership

  • Own Foundation ERP as the company's core financial and job-cost system of record, including Payroll, AR, AP, Job Cost, Job Setup, Purchase Orders, and Fleet Depreciation modules.
  • Improve and automate the flow of estimating and budget data from field/estimating tools into Foundation, eliminating manual re-entry of budget information.
  • Partner with Finance/Accounting, HR, Safety, and Fleet leadership to ensure their respective platforms (HRHQ, SafetyHQ, Tenna Fleet/RM/Mechanic, and related tools) are properly integrated, secure, and fit for purpose.

Vendor, Security & Compliance Management

  • Manage relationships and contracts with software vendors and integration partners, holding them accountable to service levels and roadmap commitments.
  • Establish IT security, data-privacy, and access-control standards appropriate for systems that carry sensitive employee data (PII, banking, benefits) and MDOT/DTE client requirements.
  • Ensure systems and integrations support Rauhorn's compliance obligations, including MDOT prequalification, certified payroll, and third-party client platforms (e.g., DTE systems, Aashtoware, ProjectWise).

Reporting, Analytics & Business Enablement

  • Own and mature Rauhorn's Power BI and broader reporting environment, ensuring leadership has accurate, timely, self-service visibility into labor, job cost, fleet, and forecast data.
  • Partner with executive and functional leaders to translate business questions into reliable data and dashboards, rather than one-off manual reports.

Leadership & Organizational Build-Out

  • Assess current IT support model and resourcing; build and lead the internal IT/systems function needed to support the company long term (staff, managed-service partners, or a hybrid model).
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the President and executive leadership team on technology investment priorities, sequencing, and total cost of ownership.
  • Champion change management and user adoption across departments as systems are consolidated or replaced — this is as much a people and process job as a technical one.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in information systems/IT leadership, including direct ownership of ERP platforms and multi-system integration projects.
  • Demonstrated success building an integration roadmap and reducing manual, error-prone data processes (CSV imports, copy/paste, duplicate entry) into automated, governed data flows.
  • Strong grasp of data architecture, systems-of-record design, and data governance in a multi-department (Finance, HR, Safety, Fleet, Operations) environment.
  • Proven ability to operate at both altitudes: strategic roadmap-building and hands-on tactical execution/troubleshooting.
  • Experience managing software vendors, contracts, and implementation partners.
  • Strong communication and influence skills; ability to align non-technical executive and functional leaders around a shared systems strategy.
  • Experience building or scaling an internal IT function, including staffing and/or managed-service models.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in construction, electrical contracting, infrastructure, or another asset- and project-intensive industry.
  • Familiarity with construction/job-cost ERP platforms (e.g., Foundation, Viewpoint, Sage 300 CRE, or similar) and with fleet, safety, or estimating software integrations.
  • Experience supporting government/DOT-regulated or utility-client reporting requirements (certified payroll, prequalification, client-mandated systems).
  • Background in BI/reporting platform ownership (Power BI or equivalent).
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, ERP-specific credentials) a plus.
