About The Role
McKesson is seeking a strategic and results-oriented Director, Site Reliability Engineering & Operational Intelligence to lead enterprise-scale reliability, observability, and operational transformation initiatives. This leader will drive the vision, strategy, and execution of modern operations capabilities across observability platforms, infrastructure automation, AI-enabled operations, and service reliability practices.
The role provides leadership across multiple teams and functions, partnering with business and technology executives to improve service availability, operational efficiency, and customer outcomes through data-driven decision making, automation, and continuous improvement. This position aligns with Director-level leadership responsibilities for enterprise strategy, governance, workforce development, and operational excellence.
What You'll Do
- Define and execute enterprise strategies for Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Operational Intelligence, and Observability.
- Lead teams responsible for Dynatrace, Datadog, LogicMonitor, Prometheus, distributed tracing, monitoring, and event correlation platforms.
- Drive proactive operations through observability insights, predictive analytics, automation, and AI-driven operational improvements.
- Establish governance, standards, metrics, and service reliability objectives across technology platforms.
- Lead Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and Configuration Management (Ansible) adoption to improve scalability, consistency, and resilience.
- Partner with engineering, cloud, security, and business leaders to deliver highly available, secure, and performant services.
- Manage strategic roadmaps, budgets, investments, vendor relationships, and operational portfolios.
- Develop high-performing teams through coaching, succession planning, leadership development, and servant leadership practices.
- 12+ years of professional experience with 4+ years of people leadership experience in enterprise technology organizations.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience leading Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Platform Engineering, Operations Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or Observability functions.
- Hands-on experience with observability platforms such as Dynatrace, Datadog, LogicMonitor, or Prometheus.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and configuration management solutions such as Ansible.
- Proven experience leading enterprise-scale operational transformation, automation, and reliability initiatives.
- Experience managing budgets, strategic roadmaps, vendors, and cross-functional technology programs.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives and lead large-scale organizational change.
- Experience with AIOps and MLOps platforms.
- Knowledge of Generative AI, LLMs, Prompt Engineering, and AI-assisted operational workflows.
- Experience with distributed tracing technologies and event correlation solutions.
- Understanding of RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures and vector database technologies.
- Experience developing operational analytics, predictive monitoring, and intelligent automation capabilities.
- Cloud platform experience across Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience building self-healing infrastructure and autonomous operations capabilities.
- Advanced expertise in executive communication, strategic planning, and enterprise governance.
- Hybrid or remote work arrangement based on business needs and organizational policy.
- Occasional travel (up to 15%) for leadership, planning, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Ability to participate in virtual and in-person meetings and work with distributed teams across multiple time zones.
- Standard office and computer-based work requirements.
Our Base Pay Range for this position
$158,300 - $263,900
