Technical Support Engineer

The role

We are looking for an experienced Tech Lead to support a multidisciplinary product-development team in building scalable, secure and high-quality cloud software.

As Tech Lead, you will provide technical direction, guide architectural thinking and help engineers make well-informed decisions independently.

You will work closely with Product Managers, Product Designers, Engineering Managers and other technical teams to deliver reliable products that meet customer and business needs.

This is a collaborative leadership role combining software architecture, engineering standards, delivery support and team development. Success will be measured by the capability and autonomy you build within the team, not simply by the technical decisions you make personally.

Key responsibilities

Technical leadership

• Establish clear technical direction aligned with product and business objectives.
• Help the team understand the intended outcomes behind product initiatives.
• Guide technical decisions without prescribing every implementation detail.
• Lead discussions concerning architecture, system design and technical trade-offs.
• Promote scalable, secure and maintainable software architecture.
• Ensure important technical decisions and their reasoning are documented.

Product planning and delivery

• Collaborate with product and design colleagues to plan and deliver new initiatives.
• Assess technical feasibility, risks, dependencies and resource requirements.
• Balance short-term delivery priorities with long-term platform health.
• Break down complex technical challenges into manageable pieces of work.
• Identify and remove obstacles affecting delivery.
• Promote shared ownership and reduce dependency on individual team members.

Engineering quality

• Champion effective coding standards, design patterns and review practices.
• Promote automated testing and reliable deployment processes.
• Encourage clean, secure and maintainable code.
• Support secure-by-design development throughout the product lifecycle.
• Monitor system health, performance and reliability.
• Drive improvements in observability, resilience and operational efficiency.

Coaching and collaboration

• Coach engineers in architecture, systems thinking and technical decision-making.
• Support the professional development of team members.
• Create an environment of trust, constructive feedback and continuous learning.
• Share knowledge and encourage consistency across engineering teams.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, distributed colleagues and external partners.
• Represent the team in technical forums and cross-functional discussions.

About you

You are an experienced software engineer with strong technical judgement and a collaborative approach to leadership. You enjoy solving complex problems, developing others and creating an environment in which teams can work confidently and independently.

You are comfortable balancing technical quality with commercial priorities and can explain complex subjects clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Essential experience

• At least six years of professional software-development experience.
• Experience in a technical leadership, lead engineering or senior software-engineering role.
• Strong experience developing cloud-based applications and microservices.
• Proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript within a Node.js environment.
• Experience with server-side frameworks such as NestJS or similar.
• Practical experience with AWS or another major cloud platform.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with automated testing, continuous integration and cloud deployment.
• Understanding of application security, performance and scalability.
• Strong communication, collaboration and stakeholder-management skills.
• A relevant technical degree or equivalent professional experience.

Desirable experience

• Event-driven architecture, messaging systems and queues.
• Elasticsearch or comparable search technologies.
• SQL and NoSQL databases.
• High-volume or high-availability applications.
• Payment services or financial transaction workflows.
• Monitoring, observability and performance-management tools.
• Working with distributed or international engineering teams.
