We are looking for…

A highly technical Head of Engineering to partner with our CTO and help scale Sonaar's platform, team, and engineering culture. At Sonaar, we believe exceptional engineers, equipped with the right tools and mindset, can achieve what once required teams ten times larger. We're looking for a leader who shares that vision and is excited to turn it into reality.

You have a proven track record of scaling modern software systems and high-performing teams. You embrace new technologies pragmatically, automate relentlessly, and constantly look for ways to increase the impact of engineering. Most importantly, you're excited about shaping a culture of excellence and helping define what great software development looks like in a rapidly changing world.

Your missions

• Co-lead the technical strategy with the CTO, setting the architecture, tooling, and development standards
• Lead and grow the engineering team, combining human talent with AI agents and automation where they create real leverage
• Design and supervise backend architectures, ensuring modularity, resilience, and long-term maintainability
• Oversee the development of front-end and back-end features, ensuring high-quality, testable, and performant code
• Shape data architecture and modeling to align with product goals and enable predictive analytics
• Guarantee the reliability, scalability, and security of our systems and infrastructure
• Drive practical innovation, using new tools and AI-native workflows to improve speed, quality, automation, and data accuracy
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, data, and business teams to align technology with strategic priorities

This job is for you if...

• You have 5 to 15 years of software engineering experience, including technical leadership or management roles
• You already use AI and agents as part of how you build, test, review, or automate software
• You have hands-on expertise in both front-end (React, TypeScript, or similar) and back-end (Node.js, Python, Go, or Java) development
• You have deep experience in system design, architecture, and scalability for production-grade products
• You’ve managed cloud-based environments (AWS, GCP) and DevOps pipelines (Docker, CI/CD)
• You’re passionate about data modeling and understand the interplay between relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases
• You can balance strategic thinking with pragmatic execution, knowing when to code, delegate, automate, or bring in an agent
• You’ve worked in startup or scale-up contexts and enjoy the fast-paced, problem-solving environment
• You are fluent in English, Dutch or French
