Engineering Manager
Indexed description
We’re deployed globally, trusted by Fortune 100 companies, and backed by Gradient Ventures (Google’s AI fund). As one of the fastest-growing companies in HR technology, we’re looking for an Engineering Lead to lead the team building the next generation of our end-user experiences.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll manage and grow a team of engineers, own the architecture and quality of the interfaces employees use to interact with Cascade’s AI agents, and partner closely with product and design to ship reliable, high-performance experiences. You’ll report directly to the CTO and own day-to-day delivery and team health for this surface.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and grow a team of engineers — own day-to-day execution, technical direction, and the team’s delivery and health.
- Drive full-stack development of Cascade’s core end-user experiences: conversational interfaces, workflow surfaces, and agent-driven interactions.
- Architect frontend and backend systems that support real-time, long-running HR workflows.
- Make and guide architectural decisions that balance performance, reliability, and rapid iteration.
- Mentor and develop engineers through code reviews, pairing, and direct technical and career guidance.
- Partner cross-functionally with product, design, and the AI/LLM platform team to define roadmap priorities and shape features.
- Turn user feedback into iterative improvements that increase clarity, trust, and engagement.
- Own production excellence: monitoring, observability, and incident response for your surface.
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including time leading or managing engineers.
- Strong proficiency in Python (required).
- Strong cloud experience (required) — we’re not opinionated about which cloud you know best, as long as your depth is real.
- Strong system design experience (required), with a clear track record of designing robust systems deployed to production.
- A track record of owning large, multi-sprint initiatives end-to-end and shipping them.
- Strong product intuition — able to turn ambiguous requirements into concrete, elegant technical plans.
- Experience with scalable architectures and containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes).
- Clear communicator who can align engineering decisions with business goals and operate with autonomy.
- TypeScript / React and frontend development experience.
- Experience with LLM-powered systems or agentic UX.
- Familiarity with real-time or interactive experiences (streaming, async workflows, event-driven systems).
- Frontend performance tuning and accessibility expertise.
- Experience building high-performance, user-centric interfaces in a SaaS environment.
- Experience scaling systems and teams during periods of rapid growth.
- Background integrating with enterprise systems (Workday, ADP, UKG, ServiceNow, Slack, Teams).
- Python
- React
- Docker, Kubernetes, and serverless Functions on Azure and GCP
- MongoDB (primary database) and Elasticsearch (vector DB)
- LLM infrastructure on LangChain, with LLM tracing on LangSmith
- Auth on WorkOS
- Lead the core user experience for AI agents used by hundreds of thousands of employees globally.
- Work directly with the founders and CTO to shape product direction.
- Meaningful equity in a fast-growing, venture-backed AI company.
- Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and unlimited PTO.
- A collaborative, high-ownership engineering culture where your impact is immediate.
