ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Vice President of Engineering to lead and scale an engineering organization building AI-native software platforms that accelerate complex scientific, operational, and business workflows. Reporting directly to the CTO, this leader will partner closely with executives across Research & Development, Clinical Operations, Business Development, Data Science, and Product teams to transform challenging domain-specific problems into scalable technology solutions.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who believes AI is fundamentally changing how engineering organizations operate. The ideal candidate will bring a strong perspective on how AI, autonomous agents, LLMs, and modern engineering practices can reshape workflows, increase leverage, and unlock business value.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Define and execute the technical vision for an engineering organization focused on high-impact platforms, data systems, and AI-driven capabilities.

• Lead the adoption and evolution of AI-native development practices, including LLM-powered applications, autonomous agents, workflow automation, and tool orchestration frameworks.

• Partner with executive leadership, Data Science, Clinical, Research, and Business teams to identify opportunities where technology can accelerate business outcomes and operational efficiency.

• Drive the development and deployment of production-grade AI solutions supporting research, operations, analytics, and decision-making workflows.

• Build scalable platforms for ingesting, processing, and operationalizing large, complex datasets.

• Establish engineering best practices around security, compliance, automation, observability, and platform reliability.

• Develop high-performing engineering teams through hiring, mentorship, organizational design, and career development.

• Foster deep collaboration between engineering and business stakeholders to ensure technology initiatives align with strategic priorities.

• Lead technical planning, architecture reviews, and execution across multiple concurrent initiatives.

• Promote a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 10+ years of experience across software engineering, platform engineering, data engineering, or related technical disciplines.

• Significant experience leading engineering organizations of 15+ engineers.

• Prior hands-on software engineering experience with a strong technical foundation before moving into leadership roles.

• Experience building and deploying AI, LLM, agent-based, or intelligent automation solutions in production environments.

• Strong understanding of modern cloud architectures, distributed systems, data platforms, and scalable software development practices.

• Demonstrated success partnering with executive stakeholders and cross-functional business teams.

• Experience translating business challenges into technical roadmaps and measurable outcomes.

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

• Ability to influence strategy while remaining close enough to technology to guide architectural decisions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience within life sciences, healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, clinical research, diagnostics, medical devices, or highly regulated industries.

• Familiarity with regulated environments, compliance frameworks, validation processes, and quality systems.

• Experience supporting data science, machine learning, or AI-driven product organizations.

• Exposure to clinical, research, scientific, or operational data platforms.

• Experience evaluating acquisitions, partnerships, technical diligence, or strategic technology investments.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• A visionary engineering leader who embraces AI-first thinking.

• A builder who enjoys creating systems, teams, and processes from the ground up.

• A strategic partner capable of influencing executive decision-making.

• A leader who develops strong engineering cultures while maintaining high standards for execution.

• Someone energized by solving complex problems with technology and driving measurable business impact.
