Technical Cofounder or Founding Engineer
Indexed description
Technical Cofounder, Lexaria
Lexaria.ai is on a mission to eliminate the billable hour. Every company needs legal. No one needs a law firm. Legal should behave like a system: efficient, predictable, and built to drive deal outcomes rather than rack up hours.
Founders use Lexaria to complete, negotiate, and manage contracts and data rooms, bringing in lawyers only when real expertise is needed. Operators get a white glove experience, working with AI-leveraged lawyers as business partners to accelerate transactions. Every deal makes the platform smarter: teaching it what terms are standard, where counterparties push back, and what the fastest path to close looks like. Hospitality is the beachhead, with an estimated $12B in annual legal spend. The larger opportunity is consolidating legal demand across entire verticals under a new AI-first law firm model.
Where we are
Design partners are lined up ahead of the MVP, with a fundraise to follow once the product is in their hands. The founder is Jessica Kramer, CEO: founder and GTM exec, former big law attorney, and VC operating partner with four hospitality tech exits.
To be direct about the stage: this is equity until we raise. You would be building alongside the design partner work that makes the raise happen. If you need cash compensation from day one, this is not the right time to talk, and I would rather say that now than in the third conversation.
What you will own
You are the first engineer and the technical half of the founding team. Architecture, stack, infrastructure, and data model are yours.
- The inversion at the core of the product: front-load the judgment into the term sheet, then let agents carry the drafting, redlines, and closing that follow. Most of the value is in getting that handoff right
- The contract engine: ingestion, structure extraction, clause-level comparison against prior work, and first drafts a practicing attorney will edit rather than discard
- The learning loop that turns closed deals into standards, benchmarks, and negotiation intelligence. This is the compounding asset and it has to be designed deliberately, not collected as a byproduct
- The product itself, for founders and operators, plus the internal tooling that makes legal review faster on our side
- Evals and quality measurement. Output quality is the product, so you need to know whether a change made it better before it ships
Who you are
Ideally you have been a CTO or technical cofounder before, raised venture capital, and are looking for the next one with a GTM partner who knows the industry cold. At minimum you are an AI-first full stack engineer who loves to build product, thinks hard about how process could be better, and knows how to turn proprietary data into a market advantage.
Either way:
- You have shipped production systems with models in the loop, not demos. Retrieval over a proprietary document set, structured output, tool use, evals, and the real tradeoffs in cost, latency, and failure modes
- You can be the only engineer for a stretch, then hire and lead a small team without treating that as a promotion out of building
- You have judgment about where a model adds value and where deterministic logic is required for defensibility. A regulated domain punishes the wrong call in both directions
- You are comfortable with lawyers as your primary design input. They will tell you in precise detail what is wrong with your output, which is the fastest path to a good product
- Legal tech and hospitality experience are both nice to have and neither is required
Why now
The models are finally good enough to do this work at a quality clients will accept, with lawyers in the loop. A system built on one vertical's documents and deal history beats a general tool, and law firms have no reason to automate work they bill by the hour. Claiming a vertical takes someone who knows its law, its operators, and how to build the right software for it. I have the first two. I am looking for the third.
If this excites you, I can't wait to talk. This is a huge opportunity that is fully vetted with users and investors excited by what we're working on who already believe in me. I'm ready to partner and win.
