Location: Washington, DC Area (Onsite – 5 Days per Week)
Duration: Direct Hire
Salary Range: $250K – $300KBase + 20%–30% Bonus + Equity
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly technical, hands-on Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead and scale a growing technology organization during a critical phase of product expansion and commercialization. This role requires a unique combination of executive leadership, software engineering expertise, architectural vision, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will be deeply involved in software development, technical architecture, and engineering execution while simultaneously leading and growing the engineering organization. This individual will partner closely with Product leadership to bring a new platform from beta to full-scale market launch while ensuring the stability, scalability, and reliability of existing products.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the overall technology strategy, architecture, and engineering execution aligned with business growth objectives.
• Partner closely with Product leadership to successfully transition products from beta to commercial launch.
• Remain actively involved in software development, code reviews, technical design, and architectural decision-making.
• Build, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams.
• Drive engineering excellence, including code quality, testing practices, performance optimization, and development standards.
• Ensure platform scalability, reliability, security, and operational excellence.
• Oversee cloud infrastructure, system uptime, data security, and technical operations.
• Establish engineering processes, delivery frameworks, and technical best practices.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Sales, and Customer Success teams on launch readiness and prioritization.
• Manage technology budgets, vendor relationships, and tooling decisions.
• Balance rapid execution with long-term platform sustainability and technical debt management.
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance engineering culture.
Qualifications
• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience with increasing leadership responsibility.
• Experience leading engineering organizations in startup or high-growth technology environments.
• Strong hands-on software engineering background with recent technical involvement.
• Deep expertise in Python development.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL and SQL database design.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience with GitHub and modern CI/CD practices.
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration technologies such as Airflow and/or Hatchet.
• Experience building and scaling modern full-stack web applications.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, security, and reliability engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical decisions into business impact.
