Company Overview:

Vertex Holdings (https://vertexholdings.com/) is a Singapore-based venture capital investment holding company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings.

We focus on venture capital investment opportunities in the information technology and healthcare markets through our global network of seven venture capital funds. Across our network of funds, we manage over US$6.5 billion in AUM and have invested in more than 300 start-ups globally.

Today, the Vertex network has over 100 professionals globally, with offices based across China, Israel, Japan, Korea, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the United States.

The Role:

Vertex has built a proprietary investment platform, used daily by investment professionals across the network — relationship intelligence and CRM, AI-driven deal sourcing and qualification, portfolio monitoring and impact reporting, and an in-house AI agent that lets the team interrogate all of it in natural language. It is under continuous development, with new AI capability shipping regularly and adoption expanding to more funds across the network.

We are looking for a Head of Technology to own this platform and take it to its next stage. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will lead a small engineering team, and you will still be in the codebase — shaping architecture, reviewing pull requests, and building the hardest parts yourself. The role centres on AI software development; a smaller share of your time goes to directing IT operations and cybersecurity for the firm.

AI Software Development

Lead the team and the delivery

  • Lead a small engineering team — set direction, prioritise ruthlessly, and keep the team shipping to production continuously
  • Set the technology roadmap for the platform, agreed with the investment team, and be accountable for what lands
  • Coach and grow the team through code review, design review, and a rising bar on quality, testing and operational discipline
  • Work directly with investment professionals and portfolio teams to turn ambiguous business problems into scoped, shippable work — you are the translation layer between the two
  • Drive adoption of the platform across the Vertex network of funds, supporting multi-fund rollouts and onboarding of new user groups

Own the architecture and build the product

  • Own end-to-end architecture across a Python/Django backend, a TypeScript/React frontend, and a PostgreSQL data layer on Google Cloud
  • Write and review production code; take on the design and delivery of the most complex and highest-risk work yourself
  • Keep the system healthy — performance, reliability, observability, cost and technical debt
  • Own secure engineering practice in the product: access control, data protection, dependency and secrets hygiene, and remediation of penetration-test findings
  • Run the delivery pipeline — CI/CD, automated testing, preview environments and release process across multiple deployed fund instances
  • Build and maintain integrations with the external data providers and enterprise systems the platform depends on: company and people data providers, CRM, email and calendar, and messaging

Build the AI capability

  • Design, build and operate the LLM and agent systems at the core of the product — retrieval over our proprietary data, multi-step research agents, document and meeting-audio processing, and structured extraction from unstructured sources
  • Own model strategy: selection, routing, and the cost and latency trade-offs across providers — and keep it current as the frontier moves
  • Build the evaluation discipline — systematic evals, tracing and regression testing — so agent quality is measured rather than assumed
  • Manage the prompt and agent lifecycle: versioning, experimentation, and safe rollout to users
  • Extend the platform's tool and MCP (Model Context Protocol) surface so Vertex data can be used safely from AI clients, with the right authentication and access controls
  • Keep the team's own engineering practice AI-native: agentic coding tools, automated review, and internal agents that raise throughput

IT & Cybersecurity

  • Run the firm's corporate IT environment across the Singapore office and wider network — identity and access, endpoints, networking, and the SaaS estate — and manage the vendors and managed service providers who support it
  • Own the firm's cybersecurity posture and technology risk register: tooling, monitoring, incident response, and regular review against emerging threats
  • Maintain IT and information security policies, meet regulatory and shareholder reporting obligations, and run security awareness across the firm
  • Hold the IT and cybersecurity budget and make the build-versus-buy calls

Requirements:

Essential

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 8+ years building software professionally, including 3+ years leading a small engineering team while remaining hands-on
  • Strong Python and a modern web framework (we use Django), with solid TypeScript and React on the frontend — genuinely full-stack, not full-stack on paper
  • Real depth in relational data modelling and SQL (PostgreSQL), and in designing APIs that survive contact with a growing product
  • Production experience building with LLMs — retrieval-augmented generation, agents, tool use, structured output — and, critically, experience evaluating and improving their quality rather than shipping and hoping
  • Cloud-native delivery on GCP or AWS: containers, managed services, infrastructure as code, CI/CD and monitoring
  • A track record of taking something from idea to production and then living with it
  • Sound judgement on security and data protection, and the credibility to own technology risk with senior stakeholders
  • Excellent communication with non-technical audiences — much of the job is understanding what an investor actually needs

Nice to have

  • Experience using AI coding agents as part of a serious engineering workflow
  • Familiarity with vector search, embeddings and graph-shaped data
  • Exposure to corporate IT administration and vendor management
  • Interest in venture capital, private markets or startup ecosystems

How you work

  • Pragmatic about scope: happy to ship the useful 80% and iterate, rather than design for scale we don't have
  • At home in a small firm, where the boundary between “my job” and “someone else's job” is thin
